Mataulufotu Aiono, age 86, returned back home to our loving Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. He was born on March 11, 1935 in Faleatiu Aana, Samoa to Voi Aiono and Tausoa Umu. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings, including serving as a Branch President/Bishop in Fort Defiance, Arizona. He loved the scriptures, the gospel teachings and our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ with all his heart. He graduated from the Church College of Hawaii in 1962 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. He married his eternal companion, Clara Lynn Largin on May 13, 1966 and sealed their love for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend who filled our lives with joy and laughter.
Education was very important to Fotu. He helped so many people all across the world. Starting with his own family members, then later branching out to help any and all who wanted to come to the United States to get an education. He was a true blue BYU football fan. He was a pioneer for his family and loved trying new things. He loved to travel and always had a smile and said hello. He will be truly missed not only by his family, but by all those who knew him.
Fotu is survived by his loving wife, Clara Aiono; children, April Fuatino Wright, Angie Laumua Finai, Rae Ann Puatonofo Aiono-Napoleon, Matthew Voi Aiono; siblings, Voi Aiono, Maua Aiono, Tagi Ulugia; 14 grandchildren, Tiana Aiono Mundell, Jason Tupuola-Aiono, Frank Fotu Aiono Mundell, Jason Jacob Aiono, Kaimana Wright, Amber Shell, Shelby Wright, Pyce Finai, Tyrone Finai, Chantelle Tautaiolefue, Christopher Napoleon, Ginger Napoleon, Terttu Aiono, Meleane Aiono; 16 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, James Pitone Tupuola-Aiono and great grandson, Keikilani Wright; siblings, Etisone Aiono, Sivaosa Lavatai, Leitu Taeoalii, Pisili Tuigamala, Taililino Aiono.
