Max was born 4th of 6 children to Clinton Clyde Gunderson and Norma Deseret McBride in Burley, Idaho. Having moved when very young, Max grew up in Los Angeles, California where he enjoyed being close to extended family. He excelled in cross country and art while in high school. Right out of school he and his best friend joined the Army. After serving both state-side and in Korea, he came home and met the love of his life, Rosalie Faye Cullison. They were married April 22nd, 1961 and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple June 24, 1966.
After the birth of his first four children, Max started his career with the United States Postal Service in 1967. Starting in California, then Washington and settling for good in Salt Lake City, Utah where his 5th and last child was born. He loved being a postman and enjoyed making many long-lasting friendships. He spent the biggest part of his career in the Kearns Branch where he even delivered to his own house for a stretch of time. His children enjoyed seeing him delivering the mail and would walk alongside him to the end of the street. He became a close confidant to many while he served as the shop steward until his retirement in 1991. Max was not one for sitting idle; after only one year of retirement he started a new career at Napa Auto Parts, retiring 11 years later. Never to stop, he started yet another job at Wal-Mart, but retired for good at the age of 70.
Max was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has held many callings and loved each one, but most of all his last calling as a worker in the Jordan River Temple. Max was always willing to lend a helping hand and was the quintessential “Mr. Fix-it.” He was a man ready to help anyone at any time with anything, all while sharing a few good jokes. Our Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle will be sorely missed!
