Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Michael Alden Brown, aka “Mike” “Mikey” “Brownie” “Michael J,” passed away due to a tragic incident, and succumbed to his injuries on June 3, 2024. He was born on September 23, 1985, and is the ninth of ten children born to Gerald “Gary” Otis Brown and Denna Cummings Brown, in West Valley City, Utah.
He leaves behind his sweet wife, Mandi, and two boys, Dominik (10) and Kai (8), his mother, Denna, siblings (four brothers and four sisters), Merrie (Gary) Jackson, John (Cyndi) Brown, Craig Brown, Scott (Ali) Brown, Lorie (Ryan) Curtis, Julie (Bud) Petersen, David (Carrie) Brown, Margie (Nick) Bingham, sister-in-law, Calli Brown, and 45 nieces and nephews.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, Gerald, and his youngest brother, Jarred (Calli) Brown.
He graduated from Kearns High School in 2004, and later went on to get a Business Degree with an emphasis in Hospitality Management at Utah Valley University, while also working full-time and having two very active kiddos to keep up with. He joked that he should have gone on to be a doctor as long as it took him to get his degree.
First and foremost, he was a very devoted husband. It was love at first sight for Michael in Junior High, but it wasn’t until after they graduated from Kearns High School, that Mandi came to her senses and realized what a catch he was! After a short engagement, they were married in Bluffdale, Utah on November 11, 2005. From the moment they started dating, he doted on her and considered her “his princess.” They have been inseparable ever since.
He was also a very devoted father and was heavily involved in the boys’ lives, especially their extra-curricular activities. Any time the boys asked him, he would go out and play catch or hit a few balls with them, no matter how tired he was. He was a superior athlete himself, and passed the love of all sports on to his boys, especially the fourth love of his life, baseball. Michael was extremely patient, and his ability to coach and teach the boys shows in their incredible budding talent. He was a kid at heart, and that really showed in his love of Disney, The Simpsons, Star Wars, Marvel and DC Comics (especially Batman and Captain America), Lego or puzzles - that alone made him that much more lovable. He was his own confident person and didn’t feel like he needed to defend his nerdiness to anyone! He passed those same loves on to his children.
Michael was a patient, soft-spoken, gentle, funny man. His gentleness radiated in every interaction he had with others. He was sincere and meticulous in everything that he did, and a family man in every sense of the word. If you needed him, he came without question. He was a man of many talents and he used those talents to help others. Whether it was putting on a new roof, electrical work, or any other project presented to him (as long as you could put up with his under-the-breath, smart-aleck remarks) Mike was your guy! To know Michael was to love Michael and a better friend you could not find. So many of his friends wanted to “be like Mike” because he was so sure of who he was.
Michael’s family is as close-knit as they come. Without a doubt, he learned how to be so attentive and reliable from being a member of the Brown family. Their family gatherings are always so big that they have to reserve the church in order to accommodate all of them. Everyone shows up, because their family tie is so strong and they just simply enjoy being together. The care, thought and love that they put into everything they do embodies the way that Michael carried himself.
The loss that we feel cannot be put into words. High and Soft, Michael. May the Force be with you.
