

Miriam Young Farnsworth, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home on April 7, 2017. Miriam was born in American Fork, Utah on April 2, 1924 to Clifford E. and Edith Grant Young. She attended American Fork High, and then BYU, where she studied music. She graduated from BYU in 1946. She married Dean Smith Farnsworth on November 3, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dean and Miriam moved to Hunter (West Valley City) in 1952, where they raised their six children. Miriam was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings, including serving as a member of the Young Women General Board from 1948 to 1953. She was an energetic advocate of education and served in the local and state PTA, and then as a member of the Granite School District Board of Education for eight years. She also served on the BYU Alumni Association Board for three years. She had a beautiful singing voice and blessed countless people with it. Dean and Miriam were called as missionaries in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission where they served for eighteen months. She loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was loved by many people and she loved them back.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dean; her parents; brother, Clifford (Kip); sisters, Edith, Helen, and Elizabeth; granddaughter, Sara; and great-grandsons, James and Cameron. She is survived by six children, Richard (Becky), Pleasant View; Edith (Douglas) Nelson, Spokane, Wash; Kathleen (Douglas) Fuller, Las Vegas, Nev; Elizabeth (Bryan) Jackson, West Valley; Ann (Greg) Sorenson, Riverton; Jeffrey (Patricia), West Valley; 30 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren, with six on the way.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Hunter Stake Center, 3737 South 5600 West. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
