Muoi was born on June 5, 1949 in Saigon, Vietnam. She helped her family run their fabric business and later immigrated to the United States of America as a boat refugee after the fall of Saigon during the Vietnam War. She and some of her family were sponsored by a family in Utah. Soon after, Muoi met her husband of almost 38 years, De Tran. Muoi and De lived in the same city in Vietnam, but didn’t meet until they were halfway across the world in Centerville, Utah. At 4’9”, it was difficult for Muoi to drive a car without power steering, but luckily, this led her to her future husband when she sold the car to him.
She and her husband worked very hard to provide a better life for their family. Muoi was a dedicated assembly worker in the medical field where part of her work included testing central venous catheters. She would bring home catheters that had failed testing to explain what she did at work to her two children, Anmy and Henry. Anmy would later become a family nurse practitioner and Henry would become an emergency physician. These catheters would also provide her needed medical support later in her life. Muoi truly was a fighter and overcame many chronic illnesses. Her family is very grateful for the many health care professionals who helped her through the years. We especially want to express our heartfelt gratitude for her liver donor who gifted her an additional nearly 14 years which allowed her to meet her grandchildren despite having primary biliary cholangitis (PBC).
She loved to cook, often taking notes from cooking shows, and had great pride in sharing her creations with others. Weekends were filled with the smells of delicious foods coming from the kitchen as she prepped meals for the week and made treats for the family. She was also a talented seamstress, making her own wedding dress and some of her children’s clothes as they grew up.
Muoi is survived by her daughter, Anmy Tran Mayfield (Thomas); and son, Henry Tran (Uyen). She is survived by her grandchildren, William De, Matthew, and Jonathan Mayfield; and Arthur and Eleanor Tran. She is also survived by one brother, Hong Tran, and three sisters, Mai Tran, Vai Minh Tran, and Nu Tran.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dau To and Chuan Tran, husband, De Tran, and two brothers, Yuan Tran and Yuan An Tran.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the Valley View Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A lunch reception and viewing for friends and family will be held from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. A service will follow at the funeral home with committal and interment at the memorial park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made In Memory of Muoi To Tran to the PBCers Organization to help fund research on primary biliary cholangitis (https://pbcers.org/makedonation).
