Necia Dee Christensen

Necia passed away on August 11, 2026, after a week’s battle of ailments following a dementia-related fall.

Necia was the oldest and the only daughter with five brothers: Dean, Jimmy, Rex, David, and Donny. Necia moved with her parents from Canada as a child but was proud to be a Canadian by birth and a United States citizen. Necia attended Granger High School in West Valley City, Utah, where she met the love of her life Don Christensen in a seminary class. Don and Necia were inseparable from the day they married in January 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their eternal marriage will always keep them close together.

Necia received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Utah, and was one thesis away from a master’s degree in Family and Consumer Studies.

Anything Necia decided to do, she gave it her all. She served with many civic responsibilities from PTA Boards to international committees. Necia was a member of UTA Board for eighteen years to help bring public safety with CHAD and FrontRunner. She served on many different committees in West Valley City, including the Board of Adjustments for fourteen years. Necia served with The Festival of Trees and Utah Cultural Celebration Center. She was a member of the Sister Cities Committee to bring cities across the world closer together.

Throughout Necia’s adult life she had many occupations including substitute teacher, tax preparer, and seamstress. But the most important role she held was being Mom.

Necia always enjoyed any sporting event. She and Don had season tickets to BYU football for many years. She loved any kind of car racing—especially when her family members were doing the driving. She was always available to cheer on any child, grandchild, or great grandchild in their choice of sports, dance, theatre, or music performance.

Necia served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Necia had a love for Scouting and supported any Scout she knew, including her dad and her husband. Necia and Don served as senior missionaries for the Salt Lake City West Mission, Conference Center service missionaries for seven years, and Just Serve missionaries. Necia’s testimony of the importance of temples was evident as she served for twenty years as a temple worker in the Jordan River and Taylorsville Temples.

Necia and Don could frequently be spotted while playing in Disneyland wearing matching t-shirts. Necia and Don always put together puzzles with their family. Necia loved to read and usually had a book with her or on her tablet. Christmas was Necia’s favorite holiday. She had at least one Christmas tree in her house year-round and more nativity sets than her descendants can claim. Necia had an incredible talent for sewing and could make or alter anything from color guard flags to her children’s clothing to wedding dresses.

Necia and Don have always loved to travel. They took long road trips to visit family, camping along the way with all the kids crammed into the car. They took their kids across the ocean to do family history. They discovered cruises and figured that was the best way to travel in their later years.

Necia fully supported Don in his church callings, civic duties, and his career. She could usually be found by his side at community concerts, council meetings, or other events.

Necia’s talents and qualities will be a legacy that live on through the example she set for her husband Donald Glenn Christensen, her seven children and their spouses: Caroldean Neves, Ellan and Jon Culver, Dana and Scott Combs, Glenn and Kerri Christensen, Ben and Sarah Christensen, Erin and Steve Morrison, and Sam and Jennifer Christensen, her twenty-nine grandchildren, and her nineteen (plus two more) great grandchildren.

Necia is preceded in death by her parents, Don’s parents, her brother David Hansen, and her son-in-law Victor Neves.

Necia’s family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that were so caring to her during her most recent hospital stay at Common Spirit Holy Cross Jordan Valley West Hospital.

Funeral Services for Necia Dee Christensen will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m. at 4270 S. Falcon Street, West Valley City, Utah—her home church building for most her life. A viewing will begin one hour prior, as well as on Friday, August 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the same location. Necia will be interred at Valley View Cemetery. For those who cannot attend in person, Necia’s funeral service will be broadcast.
