OBITUARY

Norma Lavern Angus

July 23, 1945June 3, 2019

Norma L. Angus was given the gift of life on July 23rd 1945 in Brigham City, Utah but had to give it back (like we all do) early Monday morning, June 3rd in Salt Lake City from cancer. [Public Service Announcement: stop smoking or pressure people you know to stop smoking. That is all.] Norma found out she had lung cancer a week before she passed. She was never in any pain and was lucid to within hours of her death – a blessing!

Her mother, Lavern Zundell Gull and father, Leroy Gull, preceded her in death. Norma is survived by her husband, Bill Angus, whom she married 51 year ago right here in Salt Lake City. She is also survived by her son, Brigg Angus; her sister, Sally Vandermolen; her brother Jack Gull; her sister in law, Kathy Angus; a gang of excellent and exceptional friends; and lots and lots of nieces and nephews (hey, it’s Utah). Before returning her gift of life, however, she became a consummate aficionado of reading, well-written sitcoms, NPR, traveling, evening gameshows, the Pacific Northwest, rosé and other wines (and who can blame her?), gardening, cooking-related reality television, Moab, neighborhood beautification, puzzles, car trips, and comfort food. She was an 8th-degree Shaolin Grandmaster and three-time World Cup gold medal winner in Angry Birds. She was also a farm girl at heart, and her thoughts were never far away from Willard, Utah where she spent the summers of her youth.

Norma was beautiful and full of light, an elegant woman with a marvelous laugh and wonderful smile. She loved her dog, Ping, and fish and beauty and flowers and books. She loved her family and friends, none of whom are fish or flowers or books.

Norma was also loved by her family and friends, and that's why it's so hard for us when she had to give her gift back; it wasn't just a gift to her, but to all of us that knew and loved her. We will miss you for the rest of our days.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice.

Norma was a wonderful kind person. We worked together and enjoyed going to a movie together every couple of weeks. We also went to lunch together occasionally and enjoyed talking and catching up. I lost contact with her the last year or so. I’ll miss seeing her again. Condolences to her family. Rest In Peace, Norma.

Norma always welcomed me into her home and was so fun to talk to. We would talk about our travels and where we would like to go next. I loved to have her show me her beautiful yard and garden. She and Bill truly have a way with growing things! I am so sorry I had lost touch with Norma the past year and will miss her so much.

Our friendship began in 5th grade. We had a lot of fun together in the "old" days and a lot of laughter. We used to love to watch Jack and his band rehearse at her house! I wish we had kept in touch, but we did grow apart due to geography and very different lives. We kept in touch until our 40's. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and know she'll be missed by so many. I am enjoying memories of our friendship today.

We are absolutely heartbroken by the loss of Norma, our dear friend. We are so grateful for the love Norma showed us and the joy she brought to our lives. She has given us a priceless treasure of memories which we shall carry always in our hearts. Norma gave much to many and was loved by many in return. We were all enriched by her life.
Love and miss you forever, sweet friend.....

What can I say with a broken heart? Norma was my cousin and best friend. We had so many fun times together at the Shakespeare Festival, at Bear Lake in my condo, dinner and drinks at Cooper's, an umbrella on the beach, chit, chat, and oh, the laughter we shared and so many heartfelt moments. So many card games and Yatzee and laughter. The movies and popcorn. I will miss you sweet Cuz, forever, and hope to see you later.

We stopped for a break in South Central Utah in our camper vans and there had been quite a discussion over which Taffy and treats to buy. As we were getting back on the main road a plethora of candy flew out the driver's window. I turned to my wife as she said"guess we know who won that battle" One of a kind. With love and respect.

My baby sister ❤️ Norma was smart. I remember we took an IQ test in school and she scored very high. She assisted me recently in relearning how to knit. She has made some lovely things that way. Her backyard is lovely too with flowers everywhere to gladden the eye and lift the spirit. She spent long hours in the summer keeping them watered and enjoying the fish pond Bill made. Her backyard was her heaven on earth as it was for our Mother. Our family had some fun parties there and we all enjoyed the beautiful surrounding's. We also laughed ourselves sick playing a silly card game and eating great food. I will sorely miss you and our get togethers sister dear. But I feel that's only temporary 😔.

Bill and Brig,
We were so shocked and sad to hear about all this. She, you all, are like family to us. Of course we won’t be able to make it to the services (besides that “issue” with “Little Miss Sunshine”, it’s also Darrin’s birthday 6/7. Unforgettable coincidence!) but we will be with you in spirit.. and hoping we might have a little of hers here with us.. celebrating both her life, and his birthday. (If you can sense she’s gone missing.. you’ll know where she is! Over here having a glass of wine and a piece of cake! :-)) She was one of the sweetest women we ever knew, and we’re hurting with you. Just wanted you to know that though we won’t be able to physically be there, we’re out here shouldering some of this with you in spirit. We’ll miss her.. forever!!! Love you guys!! ❤️💔
❤️Rest In Peace, Sweet Norma!❤️
