

Norman Trent Baker, 94, returned home to his loving Heavenly Father on December 26, 2020. Norman was born on September 22, 1926 in Oakley, Idaho, to Simon and Mollie Baker. He had fond memories of his life growing up in Lynn, Utah. He liked playing football & studying geography at Oakley High School. Growing up they had two deer as pets that they even moved with them to Kimberly years later. He loved to ride horses and farm. He was great with animals and people. He attended Utah State & Brigham Young Universities and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel which was the foundation of his life. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII. He married Marie Evelyn Halvorson on June 25, 1952 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He spent many years working on his family’s farms. He excelled as a farmer of crops, animals & children and spent many of those years in Rupert, Idaho. He loved cowboy poetry and was often heard quoting the poem, “Laska.” Those who knew him were extremely blessed by this amazing, intelligent, funny, and smart man.
He is survived by his children, Debra (Gaylan) Gerber, Hugh (Shirley) Baker and Mea~Maria (Dennis) Munoz, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and devoted sister Rachel (Paul) Fairbourne. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marie Evelyn Halvorson; Parents: Simon Moroni Baker & Mollie Althea Lind. Sisters: Mollie Rae Dalton, Emma Hansen, Kathleen Randell, Barbara Westfall, Diane Rentelman and Brothers: Simon Baker, John Jarvis Baker and Laurence Baker.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at the Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, UT 84120 and a viewing will be held at 12:30 pm prior to the service. Interment will be at the Valley View Memorial Park.
