Pamela was born on January 18, 1934, in Portsmouth England to Arthur and Amy Constance. Pamela grew up during WWII, and was evacuated with her siblings to Wilton, England for three years. She was then reunited at the age of 9 with her mother when her father died due to an accident on board a ship. Her mother died when she was 20 due to lupus.
After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she emigrated to the United States and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 4, 1965. On December 7, 1965, Pamela married Ernest Leon Freestone in the Salt Lake Temple. During their 53 years of marriage they were blessed with 5 children: Matt Freestone (Kellie), Sara Miles (Robert), David Freestone (Jennie), Rachel Freeman (Blake), Miriam Hatch (Reed). Pamela was also blessed with two sons from a previous marriage who live in Australia: Malcolm Smith (Jane) and Philip Smith (Belinda). Pamela's brother, Frank, loves his "Pamelina". Frank resides in England.
In addition, Pamela had family in Canada where her sister Mary (deceased), brother-in-law Ted, and their children reside. Although distance was always a challenge, they stayed in touch as much as possible and loved Pamela and their Utah Family too.
Pamela had a great passion for family history and was always willing to assist others with finding and connecting people and families. She served as a family history consultant in her ward and stake and served a Family History mission. She also served in various callings in Young Women’s, Relief Society, Sunday School and Primary.
Pamela loved talking to people and made friends easily. She was a talented seamstress, and knitted and crocheted well, making sweaters, scarfs, blankets, and also mittens for a humanitarian service. She also loved to garden. In Pamela’s early years she enjoyed sailing and has always loved to swim.
Pamela is survived by her husband Ernest, 7 children, 19 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and
her brother. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a grandson.
The family is grateful for the loving care Pamela received while living at Copper Ridge Health Care and expresses their deep gratitude to the dedicated hospice nurses and volunteers from Inspiration who gave exceptional care to Pamela during this difficult time.
