Following a noble and courageous battle with numerous health issues, our much beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend Rex Lee Mills, passed away at his home Friday October 14, 2022 with his family at his side.
Born in Fairview, Utah on August 14, 1937, Rex was the son of Frank and Ora Mills. Rex married the love of his life, Susan Christison in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they raised eight children Douglas, Mary, Timothy, Shawna, Gary, Bryant, Malinda and Michael. He was known as “Papa Rex” to 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Family, service, sacrifice, and humility were the foundation of Rex’s life. His actions spoke louder than words, and he sacrificed much for his family and loved ones. He was always ready to help anyone. Rex had masterful skills and knowledge in cooking, candy making, gardening, mechanics, and could fix anything. He was always ready to serve others and, more often than not, could be found lending his skills and knowledge to his children and helping with any task or project they chose to undertake. Some of the greatest things Rex taught us was to work hard, be kind, and serve others.
Rex exemplified love and humility and was a dedicated disciple of Christ. He faithfully served at the Bishop’s Storehouse, in the Jordan River Temple as an ordinance worker, and was a church service missionary at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Employment Resource Center. He also held other various callings within the Church.
Rex was employed by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad which later became the Union Pacific Railroad for thirty seven years. He loved trains. After retiring, Rex enjoyed collecting trains and model railroading. He shared his love of trains with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed tractors, farming, and gardening – especially growing raspberries for his grandchildren. Some of our fondest memories with Rex include family parties, times spent hunting, camping, fishing, boating, summers spent at Hebgen Lake and making fudge and divinity for the Holidays.
A viewing will be held on October 21,, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Valley View Funeral Home 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. Funeral services also will be held at Valley View Funeral Home on October 22nd at 11:00 with a brief visitation preceding the service from 10:00 – 10:45.
A special thanks to Robert LeFavor and the staff of Caregivers Support Network for their excellent care. As well as Dr. Michelle Sorweid along with her staff at the Madsen Health Center.
Rex’s kind, gentle, loving, humble nature and quiet sense of humor was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Until we meet again, we love you Rex!
