We are saddened at the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Robert Doran Barton, our Pappa Bear on August 12, 2017. He was diagnosed on August 6 with a tumor in his lung that metastasized to his liver. Pappa Bear did not have any pain, the doctors were amazed. We know it was because of his regimen of vitamins he took daily and his knowledge of reading about vitamins and trying to eat healthy. We are so thankful to have been able to have him stay in our home the last couple of weeks and lovingly take care of our dear Pappa Bear. Our dog Tinkerbell was laying by Pappa Bear and wouldn’t leave his side up to the very end. Tinkerbell and Pappa Bear had a special bond and she would sleep with him ever since he started feeding her treats. Pappa Bear called her Stinky Butt.
Pappa was born December 26, 1937 to Doran and Beatrice Barton of Granger, Utah. He loved growing up in Granger. He was very close to his dear mother Beatrice after his dad passed away. He was always there for her to take her to lunch or if she needed help.
Pappa met a beautiful woman from Magna, our Momma, Sandra Lynne Backman. They were married December 8, 1956. They had 4 children Bob Jr., Jodie, Tracey, and Brett.
Pappa Bear owned and operated Barton Builders Mart with his brother Bill. We thought it was so cool that our dad owned a store. Pappa was a volunteer fireman for the Granger Station and when the alarm went off at our house there was a fire he would throw on his fireman coat and hat and speed out of there. We loved following him and watching the fire and after ending up at Dees for food. Pappa was a member of the Granger Jaycees holding many offices. He designed and built a Beehive float for the Days of 47 Parade and won many awards for it. Him and mom loved bowling at Delton Bowling Lanes for many years. He loved to go out to Wendover weekly and play Keno. Pappa Bear was so proud of his Armenian heritage and loved making his meat pies.
His grandkids loved him dearly and would playfully punch and hug him at the same time. He was lovingly called Poopa Stink by them. We are so thankful for the years we have had with him having him out for Sunday dinners or going to the show.
We are at Peace knowing that he is with our momma, his dear Sandra. His heart was broken when she passed away and I bet their reunion was so amazing. He leaves a legacy of 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S., WVC, UT. The viewing will be August 17, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and from 11:30 to 1:00 prior to the service that will be at 2:00 p.m.
