Robert Owen Grant died peacefully on January 25, 2016 while doing what he enjoyed most in life, snow skiing at Alta Ski Resort. Robert, known to many as Bob or Robin, was born to Albert Owen and Orie LaVon (Labrum) Grant on December 2, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Jones, on August 30, 1956 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Bob attended Cyprus High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. Cyprus won the State High School Basketball Championship his senior year in 1955 where Bob was the starting power forward. Bob was honored as All State in Basketball.
Bob was an active member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints his whole life. Bob served faithfully in a LDS bishopric for 10 years. He served another 10 years as a LDS Stake and Regional Sports Director. Bob enjoyed working and teaching the youth. He was honored and proud to be the Deacon’s Quorum Advisor for nearly 10 years where he blessed and inspired many young men’s lives.
Bob worked for and retired from Winder Dairy after 52 years of employment. He was privileged to work 54 years as a ski instructor at Alta Ski Resort where he was loved by all. Bob currently worked part time at “The Store” as well as volunteering at the Stonebridge Golf Course during the summer.
Bob loved and cared for his cars. He also took pride in caring for his beautiful yard and garden providing fresh vegetables for his family. Bob loved sports. He was an active member of the Sports Mall where he swam and played tennis.
Bob loved and lived life to its fullest each and every day. He taught his family by example to “Work Hard then Play Hard”. His most valuable and most precious treasure was his family. His greatest joy came from playing with the grandkids.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Gail L. Grant and sister; Joan Houtz. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn and his children; Kevin (Jami) Grant, Carrie (Calvin) Condie, Kriss (Shayne) Young, Ryan Grant and his brother Blaine Grant. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren and his eight great grandchildren with one more on the way.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Parkway 4th Ward House at 3407 West 9625 South, South Jordan, UT. Family and Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, January 29, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Valley View Funeral Home located at 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT and on Saturday morning from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park.
