On Friday, March 29th, 2024, Robert Shiukichi Miyake, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born on April 2nd, 1947, the youngest of 10 children. He grew up in Kemmerer, Wyoming working at his family’s laundromat and playing football at Kemmerer High. After high school he was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. After the war he moved to Salt Lake City and met and married his wife, Akiko Inouye on November 1st, 1975. Together they had three children.
Robert joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in February of 1976 and was sealed to Akiko in the Salt Lake Temple March of 1977. Their entire married life they attended the Dai Ichi Ward. There they made many friends, grew in faith, and developed strong testimonies of Jesus Christ and His Restored Gospel. As a member of the church, he had many callings serving those he loved in his ward and stake.
Robert worked hard for his family doing various jobs throughout his life. His love of and knowledge about cars led him for the majority of his life into the automobile industry. He worked as a parts manager at Mark Miller Pontiac, GT Automotive and the Larry H. Miller Toyota Dealership.
Robert enjoyed helping others. He engaged in service projects for the church and helped friends and family members fix cars and tackle home improvement projects.
Robert loved his family. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking them to the movies, playing card games, eating ice cream with them, and giving them money and gifts.
Robert is survived by his wife, Akiko and his three children: Jennifer (Cato) Wagner, Nicholas (Wendy) Miyake, and Katie (Casey) Ashcroft; 9 grandchildren: Maya and Cato Wagner IV; Reese, Ryland, Quinn and Ellis Miyake; Libby, Stockton and Nash Ashcroft; his brother Henry Miyake; and in-laws, nieces, nephews and other family.
He is reunited with his parents, Harry and Shizuye Miyake and siblings: Rose, Fred, Helen, Leo, George, Paul, Donald, and Margie.
We look forward to being with him again and take comfort in knowing that the grave has no victory thanks to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
