Ross Durling Jones Jr., age 82, peacefully left this earth in his sleep in the early afternoon of September 12th after being surrounded by the love of his family throughout the week, and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Ross was born July 3rd, 1944, in Spokane, Washington, to Ross Durling Jones Sr. and Helen Elizabeth Anderson. Ross was the devoted husband of 60 years to the love of his life, Claudia. Together they built a life centered on hard work and laughter.
He is survived by his wife Claudia and their children Karen (John) Sorensen, Sean (Julie) Jones, Jeremy (Robyn) Jones, Michael (Alisa) Jones, Benjamin Jones, and Catherine (Kevin) Cook. He was also a grandfather to Tyler Jones, Courtney (Anthony) Lewis, Katie (Chance) Bearnson, Keith Jones, Morgan Jones, Camryn Jones, Andrew Jones, Beverly (Alex) Mielens, Christian Jones, and Jessica Jones, and a great-grandfather to 8 great-grandchildren.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Aunt, Rene Anderson, and son, Joseph (Joey) Jones.
A dedicated professional, Ross spent 44 years working for KSL before retiring. He spent 41 years working as a freelance A2 audio technician for the Utah Jazz. He also contributed his talents to BYU, U of U, Utah State, RSL, and many other collegiate sporting events. His talents took him beyond Utah, including travel to Mexico for the Parapan Games and to London in 2012 for the Paralympic Games.
Ross believed in showing up, working hard, and doing a job well. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children, often working side by side with them.
Ross also had a special love for animals. Dogs were a constant presence throughout most of his life, and he adored the many “grand dogs” and “grand cats” that became a part of the extended family. He never missed an opportunity to share affection with a beloved pet.
He enjoyed watching sports, also supporting his children and grandchildren in their various sports, and especially treasured attending musicals and plays at the Eccles Theater with his wife.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Health Watch Hospice and Legacy House of South Jordan Assisted Living for their exceptional care and compassion over the past few months.
A small, private memorial will be held for Ross’s immediate family. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no viewing or public memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to your favorite pet charity, honoring Ross’s lifelong love for animals.
