Sandra Christine Smith, 66, of Taylorsville, passed away December 3, 2019. She was born in Logan, Utah on July 19, 1953 to Willmyntje and Clifford Sorensen. She was the second oldest of four and spent her childhood in California. Sandra held a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in reading from Brigham Young University. She began her teaching career in New Mexico, where she met her husband Herbert Smith. After moving to Utah, she continued teaching at Whittier Elementary in West Valley City, and retired from Fox Hills Elementary in Taylorsville.
Sandra spent her life serving others as a mom, grandma, friend, and elementary school teacher. When she wasn’t reading, she was watching PBS, quilting, or spending time with family and friends. She was fiercely protective of and extremely proud of her children and taught them compassion for others, biting sarcasm, to enjoy the simple things in life, and a stubbornness to always do well. Sandra was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a firm believer in Forever Families and that we will see each other again.
Sandra lives on through her husband Herbert Smith; children Angelisa (Nathan), Christina (Cory), and Matthew; grandchild Eli; siblings Clifford (Jerroleen), Vickie (Vern), and Tony (Kay); and mother Willmyntje. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford.
Sandra’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2019 at 11:00 at the Kearns South Stake Center (5905 S. 4000 W.) with a visitation one hour prior to services. In lieu of sending flowers, please donate a book to a local school or library in her memory.
