1953 ~ 2011
Our dear Sherri Winder passed away September 11, 2011, in a car accident in Washington County, Utah. She was born September 17, 1953 in Seattle, Washington to James Wendell and Betty Rose Hellman Adair. She attended Woodway High School, Shoreline Community College and Brigham Young University. On May 30, 1973, she married her best friend Kent Layton Winder, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children. Active in community affairs, she was a volunteer for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, co-chair of the Taylorsville City incorporation effort, co-chair of Families for West Valley TRAX, a field director for Jon Huntsman’s campaign for governor, a candidate for the state legislature, and an integral part of the campaigns of family members. Professionally, Sherri found great joy in helping people solve their problems as an assistant at House of Hearing, as constituent affairs manager in Governor Huntsman’s office, as an important part of the Winder Farms family, and as the West Jordan office manager for Congressman Jason Chaffetz, where she was employed at the time of her passing. She was active in family history work and loved serving each Thursday in the Jordan River Temple; and especially thrived at church callings where she was asked to reach out in love and fellowship to new members or those who needed an extra helping hand. Sherri’s greatest life’s work was her family and friends, and she loved being with them and cheering them on to reach their dreams and overcome their challenges. She is survived by Kent, her husband of 38 years; children Aimee (Matt) Newton, Mike (Karyn) Winder, Tami (Tom) Larsen, Nathan Winder and Isaac (Candalyn) Winder; step-father and mother Cecil and Betty Jepson; mother-in-law Gwen Winder; siblings Jim (Sylvia) Jepson, Robert (Michelle) Jepson, Jeff (Rose) Jepson, Jill Jepson and Lynn Jepson; in-law-siblings Ted (JaNae) Winder, Karen (Roger) Nordgren, Doug (Leslie) Winder, Janet (Howard) Gurney, Wendy (Bret) Bassett and Nancy (Brent) Yorgason; 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father James Adair and father-in-law Ned Winder.
