Shirley Ann Ertmann Carlsen, 79, beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, died peacefully at home on February 25, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones following a battle with leukemia.
Shirley was born May 5, 1941, to Jack and Marjorie DeHaan Ertmann. She married her eternal companion, Melvin Carlsen, on November 20, 1959. Together they raised four children. She will be lovingly missed by her four children, Russ (Stacey), Wendy (Rod), Cindy (Kevin), and Dennis (Janie), as well as her 10 grandchildren and their spouses, and 8 great-grandchildren. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers (Clifford and Kenneth).
Shirley always put family first and considered her best accomplishments to be her children and grandchildren. Family was the thing that she did best. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family. Shirley was spunky, sassy, and passed her amazing, sarcastic sense of humor on to her descendants. To the end she was cracking jokes and bringing laughter from our tears. Her humor was the second thing remarked upon by those who knew her; her kindness and love family was first. Shirley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She both loved, and was loved by, her ward family. She unflaggingly gave service to others when she could, and sometimes even when she couldn’t.
The family would like to thank the wonderful Dr. Ami Patel and the staff at Huntsman Cancer Center, and all caretakers at Huntsman at Home, who took such loving care of Shirley.
