It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stephanie Lucia Defa, who left us peacefully on May 30, 2026, at St. Mark’s Hospital in Utah. She was 51 years old. Surrounded by the abundant love of her family and friends, Stephanie’s journey came to a peaceful end in the very same hospital where her life began.
Stephanie made her home in West Valley City, Utah, building a beautiful life centered on family, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to those closest to her. A proud graduate of Hunter High School’s Class of 1992, Stephanie proved that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. With fierce determination, she went on to further her education at Western Governors University, earning her Bachelor of Science in HR Management in 2023.
As a dedicated Human Resources professional, Stephanie was widely respected by her colleagues for her strong work ethic, deep compassion, and commitment to mentoring others. Her professional pride and positive impact were recently recognized with a well-deserved promotion.
Above all else, Stephanie treasured her family. She was the proud mother of her only daughter, Lucia Pauline Anderson, and a devoted grandmother to Eleanor, Emmett, and Violet, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Some of her happiest moments were spent making memories with her grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure.
In 2022, Stephanie met her love, Quinn Mulks, who brought companionship, joy, and happiness into her life. Together, they embraced every moment they shared, filling their days with adventures and experiences they both cherished. They spent time exploring museums and attending plays, ballets, symphonies, and concerts, creating treasured memories and making the most of their time together. Quinn's love and companionship brought Stephanie great happiness, and their relationship was a source of comfort and joy in her life.
Stephanie was known for her vibrant personality and unique sense of style. She loved skulls, sparkly things, and anything that reflected her bold spirit. She had a generous heart, a strong will, and a deep loyalty to the people she loved. Whether offering support to family, helping others at work, or simply enjoying time with those she cared about, Stephanie left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Her absence leaves an immeasurable void, but her love, strength, humor, and devotion to her family will continue to live on through those she leaves behind.
“Mom, Gramma Favorite, Stephanie—we love you to infinity and beyond, at least that much. Thank you for every laugh, every lesson, and every moment of love you gave us. Until we meet again, you will live on in our hearts.”
Stephanie is survived by her beloved daughter, Lucia; her cherished grandchildren, Eleanor, Emmett, and Violet; and her loving partner, Quinn. She is also survived by her mother and bonus dad, Karron Nelson Defa-Craig and Tom Craig; her sisters, Concetta Defa (Brigitte) and Charisse Olsen (Jeff); her brother, Cody; her beloved Auntie Julie, whom she considered a second mother; her son-in-law, Skyler, whom she loved as one of her own; and her faithful dog, Nala, who was always by her side.
Stephanie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews—each one her favorite (you know who you are). She was preceded in death by her father, Jeff Defa; her grandparents; and her nephew, Rex Taylor.
A Celebration of Life honoring Stephanie will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the IBEW Union Hall, 3400 W 2100 S, Salt Lake City, Utah 84119. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and celebrating the life, love, and memories of Stephanie.
