Stephen Henry Camden, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2026, at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Stephen was born on June 12, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at home on the family kitchen table to Raymond H. Camden and Sylvia Hadley Camden. He attended South High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960.
Stephen married the love of his life, Marlene P. Camden, on October 7, 1961, in Evanston, Wyoming. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage before Marlene’s passing in 2020. He missed her deeply every day thereafter.
Throughout his life, Stephen dedicated himself to serving others. He worked as a police officer and firefighter for South Salt Lake, a firefighter/paramedic for Hercules, and worked for Walker Bank, Western Airlines/Delta Airlines, and the Utah DABC.
Stephen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, camping, golfing, trips to Wendover, bingo, puzzles, playing the lottery, red licorice, ice cream, lemon meringue pie, and especially raising pigeons, which remained a lifelong hobby and passion. He treasured the friendships he built while serving and being part of the Stone Hollow condominium community.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Shane Camden (Paulette); daughter, Wendy Roesbery (Mark); grandchildren Tyler (Brittney) and Emily (Gage); and great-grandchildren Kaelyn, Kenadie, Audrie, Lane, Jett, and Colt. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Henninger; brother-in-law Harlow “Gus” (Sandy) Petersen; sister-in-law Pat Petersen; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marlene; and his grandson, Tyson Roesbery.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Rebecca Winters for helping fill the hole in Dad’s heart after Mom’s passing and for the loving care she gave him. Special thanks are also extended to Suncrest Hospice nurse Tammy, Annika, and the many aides who provided kindness, compassion, and exceptional care during his final days.
