Toni was born on May 3, 1924, a daughter of Pieter and Lena Breeman. She knew the meaning of hard work. She married Edward (Ted) Smith in Rotterdam, Holland shortly after WWII. Ted and Toni met in Holland while he was serving in the British Army. Although she could not speak English, and he could not speak Dutch, they managed to communicate and produce a daughter, Kathleen (Kathi). They immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1956.
Toni spent most of her working days as a seamstress. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting and traveling. She loved to write letters to her friends and family in England and Holland, and when the internet arrived she enjoyed using her computer. She was a beautiful lady and believed in dressing modern and keeping up her appearance even in later years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Smith in 1985. She missed him very much and to her he was the love of her life. She and Ted enjoyed having friends and relatives over, singing the old songs around the piano, and enjoying a few drinks, (well, perhaps more than a few), and having a good time. She also leaves behind Harry Potter, her faithful Yorkshire Terrier. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Breeman and Wout Breeman; sister, Clara Visser, along with relatives and friends in England.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathi (Dan) Julio; granddaughter, Angelena Duncombe; nephew, Bill (Peggy) Breeman; niece, Willy Cox; friends, Ginnette French and Rita Kennedy, along with other relatives and friends. She also leaves behind her very special friend and neighbor, Cindy Crino. They enjoyed watching movies and shopping together, and when Toni was ill Cindy took care of her like a nurse making sure she was bathed, dressed and ate properly.
Funeral Services for Toni will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
