It's interesting how someone you knew so little can have such an impact on you. I have been unable to stop thinking about the passing of Brother Thayne Hopkin since I heard about it in church last Sunday. I had only known him for about a year or so. Had very few conversations with him, so I can't say I knew him well. And yet, his quiet, humble, gentle strength and kindness always buoyed me up while teaching Sunday School. I don't know why, and I can't explain why, but his presence in Sunday School class always helped me feel lifted up while teaching. Maybe it was looking out at his smile, his few but powerful comments, or the several times he kindly let me know how much he loved my lesson. I don't know. What I do know is that I always felt God's love in this man, that I'll miss him, and that I'm grateful I was able to know him. I only wish I could have known him longer and better.

I had the honor of knowing Thayne. When I was in the 7th grade Kevin Hopkin was my first and best Friend. I use to come over early in the morning to go to school with Kevin. Thayne told me if I showed up at 6:00 AM to wake Kevin up, he would make me breakfast. So I did, for the next 3 years. I had the opportunity to get as much wisdom and advice from a man that was not my dad but he always treated me like one of his own kids. I’m a better man today because of his influence and guidance.

Thanks to Brenda and Thayne Hopkin for touching my life. I will never forget!

We served with the Hopkins at the West Valley FamilySearch Scan Center, and enjoyed knowing them. Thayne was quiet, but I could tell he was a great guy, and always seemed to be happy. We were sorry to hear of his passing, but know that Heavenly Father's plan guarantees many blessings. Much love and condolences to Brenda and family.

Thayne, I have thought about you more than you'd know over the years, and the way you approached your service with the young men in the 38th ward. Your service to my family during the time we resided in the same ward was appreciated. Our family is praying for your family at this difficult time.
