Blessed to have passed away peacefully, at his home of fifty years, Oct. 6, 2026. Born December 23, 1941, in Ruston, Louisiana to Albert Jesse and Evelyn G. Martin Shaeffer. Moved to Utah as a young boy and grew up on a dead-end street in South Salt Lake, full of wonderful friends that have lasted a lifetime. Got 'hooked' on fishing at a young age, living along the Jordan River, that turned into a life-long passion and hobby. Honorably served in the U.S. Army as an Engineer during the Korean Conflict. Met the love of his life and married "Poopsie" Lois F. Jenkins and just celebrated their 65-year anniversary. He proudly built their home, barn and small farm in West Jordan, Utah then they moved to start a ranch in Wendell, Idaho and later a home Taylorsville.
He learned the skills of autobody work and opened his own business, that had a very successful run for 20+ years before he retired and drove truck for Pride Transport as well as joined his friend as a Flyfishing guide in Pinedale, Wyoming for 'fun'! He was an avid fisherman; to watch him flyfish was like a work of art…he built his own Airboat and was an avid duck hunter as well.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Shaeffer of Taylorsville, son, Bart Shaeffer of West Jordan, daughter, Christine Hansen (Amy) of Taylorsville, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceded in death by too many: his parents, daughters, Lisa Dawn and Lori Carmen, daughter-in-law, Karen Shaeffer, son-in-law, Bret Whetman and granddaughter, Whitney McKay.
The family expresses their gratitude to the wonderful staff and caregivers of Superior Home Health and Aspire Home Health & Hospice, as well as those of the Veterans Affairs Healthcare. In lieu of any flowers or service, Dad would like us to just go catch a fish!
Gone But Not Forgotten - Gone Fishin'
The memories come flooding back of good times throughout the years. We laughed, told lies, went fishing and talked of loved ones we hold so dear.
If there's a lake in Heaven, I'll meet you on the shore, we'll drop a line and wet a fly and go fishing just once more! Love, Poopsie!
