A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend went home to his Heavenly Father on September 5, 2019. Thomas James Steffey Jr. was born on July 25, 1948, to Thomas James Steffey and Armeda Campbell Steffey. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the western United States from 1967 to 1969, and he honorably served his country with the United States Navy from 1970 to 1978. He married his sweetheart Janis Marie Marley on December 23, 1969. Together, they had five children, including a daughter who was stillborn, whom they love with all their hearts.
Tom was the stalwart of his family. He loved deeply and showed his love by serving. He fixed dishwashers, he installed flooring, he mowed lawns, and he was usually able to create something out of nothing. As a result of his ability to fix anything, his grandkids called him “Feeker Tom.” He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friends touring the western United States, but there was nothing he enjoyed more than standing behind the home plate backstop and watching Lexi or Eli throw the perfect strike or hit the ball out of the park. He loved spending every available minute with his grandkids.
Beside his big heart, Tom was blessed with a fantastic sense of humor. His humor helped to brighten everyone’s day and will be greatly missed.
Tom was a friend to all. He had an natural ability to meet someone and instantly become a good friend. The world was definitely a better place with Tom in it.
Tom is survived by his wife (Jan), his children Jay (Lin), Shanna (Tom), Jared (Eden), and Katy, and his grandchildren Lexi and Eli, and his siblings Marion, Mike, and Lee.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, with a separate private graveside service for family.
In lieu of flower donations, please donate to your favorite charity in Tom’s name.
