Thomas James Steffey Jr.

July 25, 1948September 5, 2019

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend went home to his Heavenly Father on September 5, 2019. Thomas James Steffey Jr. was born on July 25, 1948, to Thomas James Steffey and Armeda Campbell Steffey. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the western United States from 1967 to 1969, and he honorably served his country with the United States Navy from 1970 to 1978. He married his sweetheart Janis Marie Marley on December 23, 1969. Together, they had five children, including a daughter who was stillborn, whom they love with all their hearts.

Tom was the stalwart of his family. He loved deeply and showed his love by serving. He fixed dishwashers, he installed flooring, he mowed lawns, and he was usually able to create something out of nothing. As a result of his ability to fix anything, his grandkids called him “Feeker Tom.” He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friends touring the western United States, but there was nothing he enjoyed more than standing behind the home plate backstop and watching Lexi or Eli throw the perfect strike or hit the ball out of the park. He loved spending every available minute with his grandkids.

Beside his big heart, Tom was blessed with a fantastic sense of humor. His humor helped to brighten everyone’s day and will be greatly missed.

Tom was a friend to all. He had an natural ability to meet someone and instantly become a good friend. The world was definitely a better place with Tom in it.

Tom is survived by his wife (Jan), his children Jay (Lin), Shanna (Tom), Jared (Eden), and Katy, and his grandchildren Lexi and Eli, and his siblings Marion, Mike, and Lee.

A viewing will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, with a separate private graveside service for family.

In lieu of flower donations, please donate to your favorite charity in Tom’s name.

Dear Katy, my wi-fi has not been working well, and its been going in and out. I just saw your message about the passing of your father. Our hearts go out to you and your family at this devastating time. We saw the obituary in the paper, but could not see it very clearly, I would have been over there immediately had I known it was your father. We loved him. If there is anything we can do, please let us know. We love you and your family so very much. Please know we are here for you, if there's anything you need. Lane is coming tonight, and I would have been there with him, except for the fact that I am President of our Sorority which meets tonight as 6:00 pm.

Please know we will respect your privacy. Love, Lane & Kathy Walton.

I have a fond memory of Uncle Tom visiting us after we moved to Texas wherein he acted and sounded like Kermit the Frog. I have never forgotten the humor Uncle Tom brought when visiting our family or when we traveled up to visit his.

Tom was a very good friend who also helped out with repair projects at our home when I became disabled. We had great discussions. We worked well together in Varsity Scouting when he was Team Coach and I was Committee Chairman. Inger and I will greatly miss him
