Veda Nadine Cottrell left this world to return to her Heavenly Father in the early morning on July 3, 2026, at the age of 90, as she predicted years ago. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Nadine was born December 31, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Garda Webb and Carl Eugene Jentzsch. She was the second oldest of 13 siblings and the oldest daughter.
As a teenager, Nadine enjoyed spending time at Frog Rock, overlooking the view of Lagoon Amusement Park. She also helped her mother raise her younger siblings and because of this, always had a passion for playing with and teaching her young grand and great grandchildren.
Nadine married her loving husband, Lloyd Blood Cottrell, January 10, 1956, in Farmington, Utah. Together they raised their children, Yvonne (Kent) Cheek, Lloyd (Nancy) Cottrell, Lucinda (Joe) Mills, Holliann Cottrell, stepson, Lyle (Connie) Cottrell and Ceresse (Lane) Harris. They had 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Nadine was an active member of the LDS church and loved writing their weekly newsletter for several years, as well as often playing the piano in Sunday meetings. She loved sharing her passion for music with her children and grandchildren by teaching them to play piano and encouraging them to practice their various instruments, as she, herself had played the flute, piccolo and saxophone in her earlier years. She also always showed a great passion for Phantom of the Opera and Neil Diamond music.
Nadine loved playing board games and as a family trait, often made up her own rules to the games. She was often a tease to those around her and found joy in sarcasm, humor and a good crime show or scary movie.
Nadine’s hands were rarely still, as she was always quilting and helping family members mend their clothing. She quilted until her very last day, making quilts for everyone she met. She considered her occupation to be a quilter, and this is how she showed her love for others. If you were a recipient of one of her quilts, we would love for you to bring your quilt and put on the back of your chair to the service for all to see.
Nadine is preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Jeanette and Ramona; brothers, Gerald, Raymond and Lee; and granddaughter, Stacey.
Her spirit will live on in the stories, music, and quilts she has left behind, and in the lives of her family and friends who were blessed to know her.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4444 Early Duke Street, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday, July 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, July 8, 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral at the same location. Following the service, Nadine will be laid to rest with her husband, Lloyd, at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W. 4100 S. West Valley City, Utah 84120.
