Verda Sweat Benson

Verda Sweat Benson age 77, passed away on Sunday, May 7th at Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan, Utah surrounded by her family. She was born May 27th, 1945 in Heber City to Lucy and Ervin Sweat. She grew up in a large family in Fruitland, Utah before moving to Salt Lake City where she met and married the love of her life, Robert William Benson on May 6th, 1967, they were sealed in the LDS temple on May 30th, 1998. They built their home in Taylorsville Utah, where they raised 4 beautiful children. She was a devoted member of the LDS church and loved to serve others. She lived for her family and was always the happiest when surrounded by them. She spent most of her life as a waitress making others day with her infectious laugh and bright smile. She enjoyed gardening and loved to sew, crochet, paint and would make the most beautiful keepsakes. She enjoyed doing craft booths with her daughter every chance she got as well as camping and being surrounded by nature. She found such pride and joy in being a Grandmother and loved being a Great Grandmother even more.

Verda is survived by her children Lora Benson Boysen (Steven Boyson), Troy Benson (Shawna Kirby), Clint Benson, Debra Rae Benson (John Stauffer), as well as her sisters Veola Gines, and RaNae Gines. Verda is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Verda is preceded in death by her siblings LaDonna Clark, Gene Sweat, Glade Sweat, Dewy Sweat, Doyle Sweat, Ecco Benard, Barbara Williamson, Verl Sweat, Carma Giles, as well as her parents Lucy and Ervin Sweat.

Services for Verda will be held on May 19th, 2023. There will be a viewing held in the Valley View funeral home chapel, located at 4335 w. 4100 s. West Valley City UT, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Following the viewing the funeral service will also be held at the Valley View funeral home chapel. Interment will take place following the funeral service at Valley View memorial park.
