Virginia Bawden Latimer

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virginia Bawden Latimer, surrounded by her loved ones, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021. She returned to her Father in Heaven and into the waiting arms of the love of her life and eternal companion, Merlon.

Virginia was born July 20, 1923 in Granger, Utah to Richard Grant Bawden and Ivy Inkley Bawden. She was the second of five children.

She married Merlon Hugh Latimer on February 25, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple shortly before Merlon was deployed to Japan/Phillipines to serve in WWII. They shared 70 years together.

Virginia was loving, compassionate and patient all while raising seven children and she worried enough for the entire family. She had an incredible memory and was a trivia master. She could recall names, dates, places, and events like few others.

Virginia had a great sense of humor and her talents included cooking, sewing, crafting, crocheting, and sharing her crafts and projects with family and friends. She was a fabulous cook and started the tradition of Sunday family dinners which continues to this day.

She served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including Primary President, Stake Relief Society President and countless others.

An amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She will be especially missed by her children Dick (Lane) Latimer, Doug (Pam) Latimer, Linda (Eddie) Gledhill, Merlene Woodland, Jana (Chuck) Clingman, John Latimer, 20 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and sister, Margaret Payne.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Merlon, son Van, parents, and brothers Sterling Robert and Howard Bawden.

A heartfelt thank you and appreciation to her children Merlene and John for the countless hours spent and constant care and companionship in her last few years allowing her to remain in the home she loved.

Services will be on Saturday, January 30 at the Granger South Stake Center located at 4251 South 4800 West, West Valley City, Utah at 12:00 PM. A viewing will be held at the same location an hour prior. Covid-19 restrictions apply.
