Vonda was born November 3, 1933 in Ucon, Idaho to Parley J. Cleverly and Marba Curtis. She graduated from Granite High School in 1951 and, later, was the first woman to graduate from Utah Technical College with a degree in Electronic Technology.
Vonda married her sweetheart, Vern Godwin, on July 26, 1953. Later, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were married for nearly 65 years. Vonda was a woman of great faith and an active member of the church. She served in many callings in the Primary and Relief Society programs and for many years as a Temple Ordinance Worker.
Vonda was a loving and attentive mother. After her 4 children were raised, she worked for Hercules for 20 years as an ICBM Missile Technician, and later became a Substitute Teacher and Librarian. Vonda’s favorite hobbies included sewing, singing, painting, reading novels, playing card games, and travelling with her family. She especially loved being a grandma and great-grandma and relished in their hugs and kisses. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and love.
Vonda lived a life of selfless service, always making sure those around her were happy and fed. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She had a resilient spirit, a keen mind, and a quick wit. She was great at crossword puzzles, made the best potato salad, and almost always won any card game she played. She cared deeply for the people around her and made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed and never forgotten. Until we meet again.
Vonda is reunited with her husband, Vern, and is survived by her children: Vicky (Douglas- Deceased) Potts, Joy (Jon) Cooke, Steven Parley (Ruth Stewart) Godwin, and Gary Curtis (Kristy Saldivar) Godwin; her 9 grandchildren: Quintin Cooke, Aaron Godwin, Whitney Cooke, Brady Godwin, McKenzie Godwin, Ryan Godwin, Benjamin Godwin, Kade Cooke, and Parker Godwin, and her 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held September 13th, 2023 with a viewing from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and a Graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park located at 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley, Utah (“Jasmine” Section).
