Wendell Ray Overton, age 68, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Taylorsville, Utah.
Wendell was born on May 30, 1957, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Elsie Lorraine Samuelson and Ray Overton. A proud graduate of Kearns High School, Wendell went on to build a diverse and hardworking career. His professional journey took him through roles at Kennecott, pet stores, and tennis courts. He spent many years highly skilled in sheetrock as a finish taper, later transitioning to manufacturing, and ultimately retiring after a dedicated career with the State of Utah. Through these varied roles, his remarkable work ethic earned him the respect of many, and he cultivated countless lifelong friendships with colleagues.
It was one of those colleagues who set Wendell up on a blind date to a wrestling match—a memorable evening that sparked a lifelong romance with his beloved Annette. The two were married in 1984 and later sealed their commitment to one another in the LDS Temple.
Wendell was a man of many interests. He enjoyed athletic sports, the imagination of science fiction, collecting, and the companionship of dogs. He also had a particular fondness for fish and keeping aquariums. Above all, his two greatest passions were hunting and fishing, activities that brought him immense joy when shared with his family and friends.
Those who knew Wendell will forever remember him for his genuine kindness, his unfailing willingness to listen, his great sense of humor, and his steadfast work ethic.
He is survived by his loving wife, Annette; his son, Jason (Leslie); his cherished granddaughter, Taylor (Andy); and his grandsons, Cameron, Kyle (Brynlee), and Kody. He also leaves behind his brother, Jerrie (Debra), and his sister, Melonie (Rob).
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends to honor Wendell’s memory on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The gathering will take place at West Valley City Park, located at 4552 W 3500 S, West Valley City, Utah.
