Lavar was one of 5 siblings born in Herriman, Utah to Marland S. Freeman & Hazel Crane Freeman March 13, 1933. He attended West High class of 1951 & went on to receive a degree in Accounting at Stevens Henegar. In 1964, he married & shared 50 years with the love of his life, Thelma Royal. Survived by his children, Paul (Lise) Freeman, Nikki Russell & Harry Pappas; 2 grandchildren, Georgia (Allan) Davidson, Preston Freeman; 2 great grandchildren, Presley Davidson & Damon Freeman.
He learned at an early age to work hard & take care of others. He entered into the Navy at the age of 19 & retired from a sales career with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp in 1988 after 32 years of service. He touched countless lives by donating each month to over 15 different charities for many years & took great joy in adopting a family each year to ensure they had just as good of a Christmas as we would. Although Alzheimer’s took many things from him, he never forgot the love he had for his family. He was an outdoorsman & enjoyed working in his yard for countless hours, camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling & he really was something to see on a water ski. He was a man of his word & everything he did was completed with precision to perfection. Preceded in death by his parents Marland & Hazel, wife Thelma, brothers Ross & Darwin as well as his beloved parakeet Tiger who was his “old grouch” companion for 11 years.
We will not forget & are humbled by the care & compassion shown to Lavar & family by his long time doctor, Philip Kithis at the Salt Lake VA.
He left behind a lot of great memory’s but he also left behind a challenge for each of us. In lieu of flowers please choose to Sub for Santa this year as they will be receiving one less donor. Friends may call Tuesday, Oct 16th 6-8:00 pm. Funeral Services held Wednesday at noon with a viewing at 11:00 am, Valley View Memorial, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City.
