Barbara Jane Langston
September 30, 1927 to January 8, 2016
Barbara was an only child born, to Ruth Abbott Boop and Roland Figaro, at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills, CA. Her mother’s side of the family was from Canada and her father’s side was of Italian decent.
Barbara attended Manual Arts High School where she met her sweetheart Roy Hammack. Not long after she graduated she and Roy got married in the Methodist church down the street from her home. Roy was a navy medic who fought with the marines in the Korean War. They moved to Hollydale, CA and bought the family home. Roy died from cancer at the young age of 27, while still in the military. They had already had two daughters, Donna and Susanne, and she delivered their third, Linda, just prior to his death.
Barbara later met Robert (Bob) Langston, from Charlotte, South Carolina. Their son Robert (Bob) Langston, Junior was born and the family lived in Hollydale, CA where the children grew up.
In the early 1970s the family moved their residence to Lakewood where Barbara lived until her death. Barbara’s husband Bob died peacefully in his sleep on Christmas Day in 1998.
Being surrounded by her family was extremely important to Barbara. She was an incredibly outgoing and friendly person. She loved her granddaughters Zoey and Leanne with deep pride and affection. And for the past seven years her constant companion and “body guard” was her beloved wheaten terrier, Sammy. Her daughter, Linda, was her devoted and loving caregiver.
Barbara was a very dedicated Christian woman. She attended Alliance Missionary Church in Long Beach until she was unable to drive any longer. She went to Bible Study Fellowship with her close friends. She was always a fervent prayer warrior for her family members and friends up until her death. Even though she had dementia in the last years of her life, she would spontaneously raise her hands to Jesus while listening to worship music, even in the last week of her passing. Barbara died, at home, peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by her four children, two granddaughters and nephew. She now is rejoicing in heaven.
