Barbara Higgins Rodgers of Huntington Beach, California, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, died Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the age of 83.
Barbara was born on August 21, 1937 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Elbert Hardy and Lois Elizabeth Higgins. She went to High School in Amarillo, Texas where she was a majorette and later played the clarinet in the marching band. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Thomas Eugene Rodgers. They lived in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to California in 1960.
Barbara was an astute business woman, with a long successful career in accounting and financial management until she retired from Boeing in 2003. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, and especially enjoyed teaching girls and providing them with new experiences. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westminster for over 30 years, and served as a Deacon, Stephen Ministries, Calling for Christ, sponsored scholarships for Bible camp, and baked cookies and other sweets for youth meetings, bake sales, and just because she cared. She especially loved the friendships she formed, and being part of a congregation that prays. Her faith was pure and eternal.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Eugene Rodgers, and her sister Charlotte Faye Magnant. Barbara is survived by her brother, Charles Ray Higgins (Wendy), her children, Debra Louise Rodgers and Sherri Lynn Rodgers (Mark Alexander), grandchildren, Jessica Rose Booth (Leigh), Alexis Leigh Donahue , Andrew Joseph Donahue, Katherine Rose Poulsen Vance (Robert), great grandchildren Eden Hawk, Rai Phoenix Rose, Eric Simon, Peter Anthony, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service officiated by Pastor John Furman and Pastor Paul Muresan will be held at 2:15 pm on Saturday, July 10 at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster, CA
92683, followed by a gathering at Barbara’s home in Huntington Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MemorialCare Hospice, whose compassionate nurses and social workers made it possible for Barbara to die peacefully at home with her family and beloved little poodle, Prince, at her side.
