Carolyn E Black

July 11, 1939November 15, 2012

Carolyn E. Black passed away on November 15, 2012 after a short illness. She was born in Wabash, Indiana on July 11, 1939 and grew up there. The daughter of Dr. Edgar and Lolabel Black, she was the youngest of three daughters. Her sisters, Virginia Hauenstein and Barbara Sipe predeceased her.

Carolyn attended and graduated from Ohio State University and she remained an avid follower of OSU sports throughout her life. Carolyn was very proud of her academic achievements, and after college, she began a career in accounting

Having moved to California from Florida more than 30 years ago, Carolyn remained a true Southern Californian. She loved the beach, and spent much of her free time enjoying the warm weather. Through the years, she followed baseball, becoming a devoted California Angels fan.

She enjoyed many interests and hobbies through the years. Needlepoint was a favorite pastime and she found joy in sharing her talent with those around her, often making creative, elaborate pieces for friends and family. She was also a passionate gardener and cook. Carolyn could be found in recent years with her precious Kindle at hand, as she was a voracious reader.

Carolyn held strong political views and was a staunch supporter of the Republican Party. She had a passion for animal welfare, worked for years as a volunteer at a local animal shelter. She had affection for cats, and they were close companions for many years.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: George Hauenstein, Jane Sipe, Nancy Sipe, John Hauenstein and Jim Sipe, and their children Steffen, Derek, Justin, Kateland, Charlie and Jacob.
