Carolyn Joy Munn passed away late January 25. She was 78. She is survived by her loving husband Robert “Bob” Munn, sisters Jackie Penning and Patricia Williams, son David Bracy, daughters Kathy Bracy, Diana Verhalen, and April Murphy, and step-daughters Kim Schueller, Tracy Geiger, Kris Munn and Randi Derakhshani, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Born in South Gate, California, Carol grew up with her parents Roland and Patricia Nuckols (both deceased) and her two sisters, Jacqueline Penning and Patricia Williams. She was active in the South Gate Baptist Church until relocating to Orange County, CA. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Allan Bracy and they had four children together and later divorced. Richard O’Connell, her second husband, passed in 1988.
Bob and Carol met through Parents Without Partners. When they discovered that they each had four kids at home, they did the math and walked away but stayed in touch through their Thursday night volleyball group that has played together for over thirty years. Single again and with all kids grown up, they fell in love and finally married. With Bob, Carol enjoyed many adventures, taking up snow skiing, scuba diving, golfing and sailing. Together they built long-lasting friendships through their boating/RV club, visited many of the United States, and shared campsites with travelers known and unknown.
A lifelong crafter and artist, a legacy she shared with her children, Carol focused later in life on quilting. A member of the Orange Grove Quilting Guild, she co-hosted the Monday Morning Madams at Leisure World Seal Beach and won several awards for the quilts she made for her family members. She frequently made and donated quilts to foster care programs. Carol was also a member of the Leisure World Women's Golf Club and the Westminster Chorale, with Bob, performing twice a year.
Carol lived a full and rich life and gave happiness and joy to everyone around her. A loving, vibrant and talented woman, she will be missed tremendously by her family and the many friends and communities who shared her interests. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent on Carol’s behalf to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://www.alz.org/ .
