Claud Cook peacefully crossed-over to be with God on Saturday morning June 6, 2020, just one month after he turned 92 years of age and three months before he and his wife Betty’s 70th wedding anniversary.
Claud was a very generous and amazingly caring and loving Husband, Father, Papa, Great Papa, and Friend to many. He was the middle child of three born in Long Beach CA, Mother: Clara Sophia Owenson, Father: Fred William Cook.
At age 5 Claud’s family moved to Westminster CA because his mother Clara accepted a teaching position with the Westminster School District.
Claud grew up in Westminster, was Huntington Beach High School’s varsity football all-star left halfback and 1946/47 senior class president. He was a fun-loving rough-n-tumble kid, loved riding his horse Palomar all over town and playing marbles with his buddy Paul Pullen in Sigler Park. As a kid his very first job was push-mowing Sigler Park’s lawn with his buddy Paul. Other fun jobs he’s had was working for Schmitts Dairy, Taylor Turkey Ranch, hoeing weeds in the lima-bean fields, working for Hunt’s Cannery on the peach canning line, Douglas Aircraft transporting parts between departments, was a Soda-Pop sales delivery person, and he drove a hay truck delivering green feed.
In 1950 Claud married the girl of his dreams (Betty Miears) then served in the Army for 2 years before starting a family and building the family home of 66 years.
In 1954 Claud started his career at Proctor & Gamble (Long Beach plant) and Retired from there in 1988 at the age of 59. In his younger days Claud was an avid fisherman/outdoorsman/traveler. In his 60s he fell in love with golf. Since a small child through the age of 84 Claud camped annually with his family all riding in the family motor home to his most favorite place on the planet, Yosemite. And yes he climbed Yosemite Falls and Half Dome more than once.
