Doris Elaine (Dee) Canedy
(10 May 1930-16 February 2022)
MY STORY
I was born on May 10, 1930 to Mark and Lillian Coleman in Somerville, New Jersey. I came to California in 1932.
I attended schools in Long Beach until 1942 when my Dad was called back to active duty in the Navy. During World War II my Mom and I went to live with my grandparents who lived in Somerville because my Dad was on convoy duty from New York to Europe. Then the family moved to the Naval Base at Patuxent River, Maryland, where Dad was stationed until after the war ended.
We returned to California in 1946 and I entered Long Beach Poly High and graduated in 1948. Five days after graduation I went to work in the office at the Long Beach Procter & Gamble plant.
I met Al there in 1950 and we were married on June 28, 1952. We were blessed with Craig in 1953, Dave in 1955, and Sheri in 1956.
We lived on McNab Ave. from 1952 to 1990. We raised our family there and enjoyed the school activities, the pool parties, and wonderful neighbors. We got lucky in 1990 when we found new wonderful neighbors in Sun City, California.
Al had retired from P&G in 1988 so we started traveling in our motorhome. After some longer trips, we mostly went to our local membership campgrounds and really relaxed. I enjoyed going to Laughlin and the local casinos. I liked the slot machines better than they liked me, but I didn’t overdo it.
We had fun in retirement going on trips with the P&G Alumni group. I guess the most memorable was the trip to China in 1997.
Along the way our kids presented us with seven grandchildren who were our pride and joy.
We were married almost 56 years. We missed it by eleven days when Al passed away.
I am preceded in death by Al (2008) and by our daughter Sheri (2007). I am grateful to have Craig, Laurie, Dave, Betty, their families, and my two great-grandchildren during my last year
Chapel Services will be March 8 at 12PM at Westminster Memorial Park with a Memorial Gathering at Pinckney on April 24 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers Mom would smile if you thought of her when you next donate to your favorite charity.
