Dorothy Marie Gook

Dorothy Marie (Martin) Gook , 89, of Fountain Valley, CA went to be home with her Lord Jesus Christ at 7:36 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Dorothy was born in Topeka, Kansas on July 13, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Messenger) Martin.

She was named by her brother and sister after Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. The family lived in Eureka, Kansas, where Dorothy grew up.

In 1952 Dorothy started working for United Airlines as a teletype operator in New York. Dorothy transferred to Los Angeles, Ca. in 1953. On August 7, 1957 she married James Walter Gook. Dorothy gave birth to daughter Evelyn (Gook) Sherwood on July 4, 1961 and then to Alfred Gook on February 28, 1969. In 1965 the family moved to Fountain Valley, CA. Dorothy went to work for Hoag Memorial Hospital in the business office in 1969 where she worked for over 30 years. In 2018 Dorothy moved to Rancho Santa Margarita, CA to be closer to her daughter.

James preceded Dorothy in death, passing away on February 3, 2007.

She is survived by: Two children, Evelyn (Gook) Sherwood, Coto de Caza, CA, Alfred Gook, San Jose, CA, Grandchildren: Alexandra Sherwood, Farmers Branch, TX, Natasha Sherwood, Coto de Caza, CA, Avalon Gook, San Jose, CA, Preston Gook, San Jose, CA, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy will be laid to rest with a Graveside Service on Friday, November 17, 2023, 10:00 am at Westminster Memorial Park, Garden of Angels. Arrangements under the direction of Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster, CA 92683. (714) 893-2421
