I first met Frank upon hiring in to then McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach in August of 1976. He was one of many I met early on but one of the few I remembered because of his unique always cheerful personality. Over time we became good friends and went to many company -related functions as well as a few "happy hours". I also found out he was good with auto-related problems.
I cherish those memories and am so happy to have known him. Rest in peace, old friend!

Frank and I met when he was dating Josie.When she brought Frank to our house for a visit I took an immediate liking to him.I had a feeling that our friendship was going to last a long time as we had similar and interesting topics to talk about. He was in the mechanical engineering field and I was in the electrical field.

Ever since then we grew together and became the best of friends. Our families always enjoyed spending time together whether it be in San Francisco, Sacramento or Cypress. After the children grew up Frank, Josie, Mabel and I took many wonderful vacations together, which included trips to Reno, Las Vegas, Canada, Hawaii and China. Frank and I took trips to Ohio and Florida, but of all the places we went to we had the most enjoyable time at Myrtle Beach and Mexico where we did nothing but golf.

Frank was a very thoughtful and generous person. He was always helpful when someone needed help or advice on home projects or automobile problems.

In conclusion, I just want to thank Frank for the opportunity of knowing him for so many years. He will be sorely missed.

Food and family are strong ties in the Louie Family.  With such a large extended family, food events are always a big deal, lots of it and plenty of new dishes.  So it was that Uncle Frank is tied to my first memories of having crab as young children.  When he lived in San Francisco, we would sometimes have crab at his house, with the long hallway, on Larkin Street.  When his family came from San Francisco, to our house in Sacramento, live paper-wrapped crab from Fisherman's Wharf or Chinatown was a wiggly sight before being cooked.  We'll all miss his gusto for the good things in life, but now lovingly and forever remember both him and my father, Ben, as priceless links in our Louie Family tree.

My family and I moved into Cypress November 1970 right next to Frank and Jo Louie. After Thanksgiving I was working outside and Frank said to me do you want some "jook". We went inside and he introduced me to one of his specialites.He told me he liked to cook,play golf and bowl,but Jo took care of the yard work. No yard work. He told me he had every tool and if I needed anything he had it. Well I knew one Chinese phrase and told him "we were like chop sticks equal and in harmony" He said "you want a drink? I fell on the floor laughing. Wow I found the perfect friend right next door. 

The frindship continued for over 42 years. We did everything together with our families,things that make for good life and long life. He told me that I had long ears and long ears meant long life. Frank had long ears and a long life that touched us all.

I could write a book about our friendship! It would be full of laughs and good times. We never had a harsh word in all that time.

His legacy will live long in his family and friends. I love the guy and his family.

We were welcomed into the neighborhood by Frank and Jo Louie 37 years ago. I remember their preparations for Grunion runs with their family and friends; the time Frank and the boys painted the outside of the house; and when we sat in lawn chairs on the front curb and watched the neighborhood 4th of July fireworks. The smoke was so think at the end you couldn't see across the street! 
There was a fruit tree in Frank's back yard and a couple of years ago I noticed some red fruit in the tree; almost like a cherry tree. This was not a cherry tree. Looking a little closer I realized it was a cherry tomato plant that had grown up the tree trunk! We had a good laugh about his "cherry" tree. 
Frank was a wonderful neighbor and we did all the things good neighbors do; watch out for each other's families; bring in the mail and newspapers when either was on vacation; share a story or joke. We will miss our longtime friend and neighbor.

I have many memorable moments of Frank, my big brother, that will forever remain with me.  I will always remember a concerned and comforting, Frank, who came to my rescue when I was undergoing a teen crises.   For many years  he kept in touch, either calling me or making the long drive to Colusa.  Frank always made the effort.  
My family and  I had fun times with the Frank Louie family at their Sacramento home; also, good times at  their Cypress home on our way to Disneyland.  Frank and Josie took Jim, myself and our entourage of kids on our first and last elusive grunion run at Boca Chica State Beach.  We had the pleasure of their company for dinners in Monterey Park whenever we were in town.  Frank was always a lot of fun. He left us with plenty of fond memories and we will miss him.

I sort of knew Uncle Frank even before I was born.  My mom and brother, Leland, were on the same ship, the USS Jackson, that brought Frank, Ben, May and their mother back to the United States.  Our family's met on the voyage coming over from China.
Ellen and I enjoyed seeing Uncle Frank, Aunty Josie and the children when they lived in Sacramento on Bowling Green Drive and then in Cypress.
When I came to see Ellen and her family, I always looked forward to going to Uncle Frank's home.  They would always welcome us with food and drink.  Uncle Frank was a pretty good BBQ'er and Aunty Josie was a great cook.  We sometimes aimed our visits so that we would be invited to stay for dinner.  We always had a good time visiting and playing with the children.
Uncle Frank loved to play golf – we wanted to golf together but we were never able to set a time and place. Now he will be able to play golf again, together with Uncle Joe, on the greatest golf courses. . . The cigar - smoking duo walking down the fairways.
Uncle Frank is in a better place.  He is much happier because he will be with Aunty Josie and the rest of the family again.

It's funny how seemingly small acts can leave marks and memories in your life.  I was 5 or 6 when my brother Frank built a balsa wood and paper airplane for me.  Frank was known for his ability to build intricate models.   Later on in life  I remember building my own models and I was considered as sort of a expert because of the model Frank had given me.  I ‘ve  passed on the knowledge of model building to my son… so it's amazing how these small acts will live on as the next generation moves forward.

“Gim Goah” was 27 and out of the house by the time I came along. So I guess it was natural that I looked up to him more as an uncle figure rather than as a brother (without sibling rivalry). Fond memories include trips to San Francisco to visit Frank and Josie when Ronnie was born and the strawberry crème cakes that he would always bring when he came to Sacramento to visit us.  Many of our father's birthdays brought the families together at Frank's Sacramento house – always fun gatherings. He and Josie even included me on one of their family trips up to the mountains to play in the snow with Ronnie, Harvey and Roger. We used cardboard boxes to slide down the hill. In my adult years he always made the effort to stay connected – driving up to my place for a yearly visit - making the point to come see me when I had my first child. When driving became a problem, he would call on New Years to catch up even though talking on the phone couldn't have been easy with his hearing problems. He was a family man who had the gift of gab and a great sense of humor.  He will be missed.

Uncle Frank, you are loved by so many people...of course one of my favorite childhood memories were the road trips Baba would take us on to Southern Cal to visit Uncle Frank and the family. Southern Cal meant Disneyland and our fun trips together to experience the pure joy and family fun that I still enjoy and will forever cherish.
Uncle Frank was so easy going, always with a smile on his face and a laugh to go with it....this is a special Louie sibling trait that I see in all three of them.
I admired him very much and will truly miss Him~

A a little girl, I thought my Uncle Frank was so handsome in his Navy uniform, I wanted his sailor uniform and asked him for it. He gave me a couple of sailer caps and a white sailer top with the tie band. I was so proud and wore them to school so much that my classmates would tease me and say I was going to be a sailor someday. Whenever he came home on leave from the Navy, I was excited to see him, but being tired he would lie  down and "puff" would fall fast asleep. That was amazing to me how he could do that, it always took me a long time to fall asleep. When I was about ten years old, my parents sent me to live at a fininishing school for young girls in Oakland, Ca. I hated being there, Uncle Ben and Uncle Frank made a point of coming there to visit me often, which made me very happy. There are many happy childhood memories of Uncle Frank. I will miss his smiling face and humor. My deepest condolence to his family.

I will miss Uncle Frank so much. My fondest memories of him was when he used to come to Tracy to visit mama, his big sister. As kids, we would get all excited ad hated to see him leave. The photo is of him with us kids (holding Jennie) was taken around 1944, he was on leave or just discharged from the Navy. During the war, mama had us kids write letters to all our uncles, in the Army and Navy,: Uncle Ben, Uncle Frank, Uncle Doan and Uncle David. We were lucky and grateful they all made it home safe. Whenever I think about my childhood, thoughts of Uncle Ben, Uncle Frank and Auntie Mae's visits are part of the happiest memories. They must have gotten a kick out of seeing mama's bunch of rag-a-muffin children. Mama had a baby every year for 11 years. With 11 children, we pretty much had to take care of ourselves. Uncle Frank used to tease me and say "do you own a hair brush?' ....He will be missed by all my sisters and brothers..Our heartfelt condolences to our cousin, Ronnie, Roger, Harvey and Gail

Loving memories - I will miss your big smile and funny jokes.  You always reminded me of my Mom, your big sister.  Say hello to her in heaven.  I will forever keep you both in my heart.

So many memories from knowing him for over 41 years and being his next door neighbor. I remember as kids going with him and the family on Grunion runs in the middle of the night and him going up and down the beach telling us not to grab the first ones cause they were the scouts and if we did there would be no fish, then we have to come back another night, which really wasn't a threat cause as a young boy what could be more fun than playing in the ocean in the middle of the night?? But we lisented to him.  The clam digs at the local beaches was another blast even though i remember freezing while pitch forking for the clams and then having to dig them up. Of corse the dim sum and the Chinese New Years parties he would coordinate every year. At one of the parties we had some soup that no one new what it was so Frank was walking around the tables making sure that everyone was good and I asked him what kind of soup it was, he looked at his watch and said 7 o'clock, so from that day forward any soup that i dont know what it is is 7 o'clock soup. I remember as a kid that he had this garage full of amazing tools and parts and motorcycles and just guys stuff, man i loved going in that garage with the old looking school clock and a huge work bench just covered with stuff, it looked like he had the whole world in that garage it was cool.Looking back now i realize it was a man cave. I honestly dont think there wasnt anything that he couldnt fix or didnt have a tool for, if we couldnt do it we knew Frank could and he helped us with alot of stuff as we entered the pride of owning a car... he was always ready and willing to help you fix something or had an idea how to fix it, we'd always say lets go to Frank's he knows or has the right tool to fix it. I remember when i became a HVAC  technichian, he gave me over the next couple years hundreds of magazines and books and literature on it, so many my head spun but he just laughed and told me i got alot more so dont worry.... and he did, my dad would stop by my house which 2 - 3 grocey bags full saying Frankie gave me some books for you. If you ever walked away from his house thirsty that was not his fault, no matter what time it was, if you went to the house he would offer you a drink, Frank its 1030 in the morning and he would say oh well, I am retired... ha. I know over the next couple days i will have more memories pop up,look forward to reading and hearing more stories about him, wish we were getting together for something other than what we are but I know that he is smiling down on us and lisenting and laughing.Going to miss that great laugh and sense of humor. Thoughts and prayers to the Louie Family.
