

Gary was born on August 21, 1937, in Los Angeles, California. He attended Jordan High School in Long Beach and later furthered his education through California Technical Trade School. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that helped shape the strong work ethic, discipline, and dedication that defined his life.
Gary met the love of his life, Edith Dykes Gonzales, through mutual friends. They married and built a life together, raising their family and sharing many years. They were blessed with two daughters. Together they built a life centered on family, faith and fun memories.
Following his military service, Gary enjoyed a long and successful career in import and export with the Pacific Maritime Association, working at the Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbor for nearly 40 years. He was a hardworking provider who took great pride in supporting his family and earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Some of the family's most cherished memories were made during their summer vacations to Yosemite National Park. Gary loved spending time outdoors with his family, hiking scenic trails, rafting, fishing, swimming, and simply enjoying the beauty of nature. These adventures created treasured memories that will be carried forward by those who loved him.
In his younger years, Gary enjoyed hiking, attending car shows, spending time at the beach, and watching sporting events on television. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, outgoing personality, and ability to make friends wherever he went. His familiar sayings, "Yeah right!" and "Keep your eyes peeled," brought smiles to family and friends and remain fond reminders of the man they knew and loved.
Gary was a member of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California, where faith provided his family strength and guidance.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Modest Gonzales; his mother, Dorothy Kuhn; his brother, Don Gonzales; his sister, Kathy Couch; and his brother, Ben Kuhn, Jr.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Edith D. Gonzales; his daughters, Lisa A. Brown and Lora Gonzales Hull; along with extended family, friends, and others who knew him and will remember his quick wit and colorful stories.
Gary will be remembered as a husband, father, proud Marine, and dedicated provider. His legacy of hard work, faith, and laughter will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A committal service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.
Though he will be missed, Gary's memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
