Jesus Olivas Navarro

Jesus was born on March 6, 1932, in the rural town of Durango, Mexico, to José and Maria Navarro. He was the eldest son in a large, loving family and learned the value of hard work early in life. After completing elementary school through the sixth grade, he left formal education to help support his family—though his love of learning never waned. He especially enjoyed mathematics and running races as a boy. Later, as an adult living in the United States, Jesus enrolled in English correspondence courses while working full-time, always striving to better himself and honor the opportunities before him.

At the age of 19, Jesus emigrated to the U.S. as a laborer through the federal Bracero program, working in agriculture across California and neighboring states. He eventually rose to the role of foreman, managing and mentoring large groups of workers in the fields and in a local packing house. Later, he took the bold step of leasing farmland himself in Garden Grove, Tustin, and Oceanside, where he farmed with dedication and resilience.

In retirement, Jesus dedicated himself to cultivating an abundant garden in his Oceanside backyard — a labor of love that reflected his nurturing spirit and deep connection to the land. He grew a stunning variety of fruits and vegetables: peaches, plums, apricots, pomegranates, grapes, nectarines, cactus (nopales), persimmons, oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapefruits, cherimoya, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, figs, avocados, and tomatoes. With Alejandra’s touch, vibrant flowers also flourished among the rows of fruit trees and vines.

Jesus took immense pride in his garden, not only for its beauty and productivity but for the joy it brought others. He loved to share the harvest — always offering fresh fruit and produce to family, friends, and neighbors. The garden was a place of peace and generosity, cultivated with care and intention. At its center was a simple lawn and patio, kept tidy and welcoming — just enough space for his favorite activity: gathering loved ones and enjoying a game of volleyball together.

Jesus met his first wife, Guadalupe "Lupe" Trujillo, while working as a field laborer. During one contract assignment, he and some fellow workers found home-cooked meals—and eventually love—at Lupe’s family home. Jesus and Lupe were married and raised six children together over 32 years of marriage. Lupe passed away from cancer in 1986.

In 1988, Jesus married Alejandra Navarro, a long-time family friend who had also lost her spouse. Their love was gentle, grounded in faith, and full of joy. Together, they blended their families and built a life rooted in mutual respect, companionship, and deep gratitude. Jesus and Alejandra were just days away from celebrating 37 years of marriage at the time of his passing.

He was a man of peace, integrity, and incredible strength. Always smiling, always thankful, and never one to worry, Jesus lived a life of purpose and faith. His kindness, patience, and strong work ethic left a lasting legacy for the generations that follow him.

Jesus loved gardening, family gatherings, flowers, texting and calling loved ones on a set schedule, and playing the lottery. He called his sisters every day without fail. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Jesus is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 37 years, Alejandra Navarro. He is also lovingly remembered by his children: Ruben (Elvira) Navarro, Daniel Navarro, Joe Navarro, Christine (Greg) Abrams, and Lydia Navarro. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Saiz, and is survived by her husband, Jimmy Saiz. Jesus embraced Alejandra’s children as his own and is also survived by his stepchildren: Francisco "Kikin" Navarro, Azucena "Suzie" Navarro, and Hector Rene (Maria) Navarro.

He was a proud grandfather to Joshua (Adriana) Villareal, Rachel (Adedeji) Adejobi, Daniel Navarro, Jenny (Matt) Lowe, Michael (Shaylie) Navarro, Viviana Navarro, Christine Navarro, Santiago II (Tina) Saiz, Beckie Saiz, Savannah Navarro, Brianna Woo, and Elijah Marquez. His great-grandchildren include Aiden and Selah Villareal; Cadence and Kaylee Lowe; Jesse, Santiago III, and Dominic Saiz; Aaron and Eric Sanchez; and Brooklyn and Athen Hernandez.

Jesus is also survived by his sisters: Hortencia (Ralph) Cija, Irma Pando, Aurora (Federico) Corral, and Lupe Navarro, as well as his sister-in-law, Elia Navarro.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Guadalupe “Lupe” Navarro; his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Saiz; grandson, Jonathan Joseph Navarro; daughter-in-law, Judi Navarro; his parents, José and Maria Navarro; his cousin raised like a brother, Honorio Olivas; his brother, Juvenal Navarro; his sister, Alicia Navarro; and his brother-in-law, Lauro Pando.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

If one had to describe Jesus Olivas Navarro in just four words: Kind, Thankful, Peace-loving, Active. Or, in the words of his beloved Alejandra: “A perfect husband, placed in my path by God.”

Jesús Olivas Navarro partió a la presencia de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo el lunes 30 de junio de 2025, a las 6:51 p.m., rodeado de sus seres queridos en Encinitas, California. Tenía 93 años.

Jesús nació el 6 de marzo de 1932 en el pequeño y rural pueblo de Durango, México, hijo de José y María Navarro. Fue el hijo mayor de una familia numerosa y amorosa, y desde muy joven aprendió el valor del trabajo duro. Después de completar hasta el sexto grado de la primaria, dejó la escuela formal para ayudar a mantener a su familia, aunque su amor por el aprendizaje nunca desapareció. De niño, disfrutaba especialmente las matemáticas y correr carreras. Ya de adulto, viviendo en los Estados Unidos, estudió cursos por correspondencia para aprender inglés mientras trabajaba a tiempo completo, siempre esforzándose por superarse y honrar las oportunidades que se le presentaban.

A los 19 años, Jesús emigró a los Estados Unidos como trabajador agrícola a través del programa federal Bracero, trabajando en la agricultura por todo California y otros estados vecinos. Con el tiempo, ascendió al puesto de capataz, dirigiendo y apoyando a grandes grupos de trabajadores en los campos y en una empacadora local. Más adelante, tomó la valiente decisión de arrendar tierras para cultivar por cuenta propia en Garden Grove, Tustin y Oceanside, donde trabajó con gran dedicación y constancia.

En su jubilación, Jesús se dedicó con pasión a cultivar un jardín abundante en su casa de Oceanside —un verdadero reflejo de su espíritu generoso y su conexión con la tierra. Cultivaba una impresionante variedad de frutas y verduras: duraznos, ciruelas, chabacanos, granadas, uvas, nectarinas, nopales, caquis, naranjas, mandarinas, limones, toronjas, chirimoyas, arándanos, fresas, frambuesas, higos, aguacates y tomates. Gracias al toque especial de Alejandra, también florecían entre los árboles y las vides flores coloridas.

Jesús sentía un gran orgullo por su jardín, no solo por su belleza y productividad, sino también por la alegría que brindaba a los demás. Le encantaba compartir su cosecha —siempre regalando frutas y verduras frescas a familiares, amigos y vecinos. Su jardín era un espacio de paz y generosidad, cultivado con cuidado y propósito. En el centro se encontraba un sencillo césped y patio, mantenidos siempre limpios y acogedores —justo el lugar para una de sus actividades favoritas: reunirse con sus seres queridos y disfrutar de un buen juego de voleibol.

Jesús conoció a su primera esposa, Guadalupe "Lupe" Trujillo, mientras trabajaba como jornalero en el campo. Durante una de sus asignaciones, él y algunos compañeros, buscando comida casera, llegaron al hogar de la familia de Lupe. Con el tiempo, el compartir comidas dio paso al amor, y Jesús y Lupe se casaron. Criaron juntos a sus seis hijos durante 32 años de matrimonio, hasta que Lupe falleció de cáncer en 1986.

En 1988, Jesús se casó con Alejandra Navarro, una amiga cercana de la familia que también había perdido a su esposo. Su amor fue sereno, lleno de fe y gratitud. Juntos formaron una familia unida, basada en el respeto mutuo, la compañía y el agradecimiento profundo. Estaban a pocos días de celebrar 37 años de matrimonio al momento de su partida.

Jesús fue un hombre de paz, integridad y gran fortaleza. Siempre sonriente, siempre agradecido y sin preocuparse jamás, vivió una vida de propósito y fe. Su bondad, paciencia y ética de trabajo dejaron una huella duradera en todas las generaciones de su familia.

Le encantaba cultivar, reunirse con la familia, cuidar flores, mandar mensajes y hacer llamadas con puntualidad a sus seres queridos, y jugar la lotería. Llamaba a sus hermanas todos los días sin falta. Pero por encima de todo, lo que más valoraba era el tiempo con su familia y amigos.

Jesús deja tras de sí a su amada esposa Alejandra Navarro, con quien compartió casi 37 años de matrimonio. También lo recuerdan con amor sus hijos: Rubén (Elvira) Navarro, Daniel Navarro, Joe Navarro, Christine (Greg) Abrams y Lydia Navarro. Fue precedido en muerte por su hija, Rebecca "Becky" Saiz, y le sobrevive su yerno, Jimmy Saiz. Jesús también consideró como propios a los hijos de Alejandra, a quienes amó profundamente: Francisco "Kikin" Navarro, Azucena "Suzie" Navarro y Héctor René (María) Navarro.

Fue un orgulloso abuelo de Joshua (Adriana) Villareal, Rachel (Adedeji) Adejobi, Daniel Navarro, Jenny (Matt) Lowe, Michael (Shaylie) Navarro, Viviana Navarro, Christine Navarro, Santiago II (Tina) Saiz, Beckie Saiz, Savannah Navarro, Brianna Woo y Elijah Marquez. Sus bisnietos incluyen a Aiden y Selah Villareal; Cadence y Kaylee Lowe; Jesse, Santiago III y Dominic Saiz; Aaron y Eric Sánchez; y Brooklyn y Athen Hernández.

Jesús también es sobrevivido por sus hermanas: Hortencia (Ralph) Cija, Irma Pando, Aurora (Federico) Corral y Lupe Navarro, así como por su cuñada, Elia Navarro.

Fue precedido en muerte por su primera esposa, Guadalupe “Lupe” Navarro; su hija, Rebecca “Becky” Saiz; su nieto, Jonathan Joseph Navarro; su nuera, Judi Navarro; sus padres, José y María Navarro; su primo-hermano, Honorio Olivas; su hermano, Juvenal Navarro; su hermana, Alicia Navarro; y su cuñado, Lauro Pando.

Será profundamente extrañado por todos los que lo conocieron y amaron.
