JoAnn Simpson

JoAnn loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed over on July 29, 2022 after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. JoAnn was born October 21, 1929 in Long Beach, California. She was the oldest of 5 children. Her parents Clarence Raynor and Veda Swanson Raynor moved from Long Beach, California to Salt Lake City, Utah to raise their young family. It is where JoAnn grew up.

JoAnn met her life partner of 73 years, Jim Simpson, during a church meeting at the First Baptist Church in Salt Lake City. Together they built a life full of love for themselves and their children, first in Salt Lake City and then Huntington Beach, California. JoAnn is survived by her husband, 4 adult children, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, a sister and 3 brothers.

JoAnn was a woman of faith; it was manifested in the love and care she showed her family and friends. Her tender heart and compassion were recognized in all her good works. She served as President of the Esther Circle for thirty years. She was the church secretary at a Methodist church, again for more than thirty years. JoAnn supported many charities, giving of her time and prayers. She reached out to so many people in need, friends, family, strangers. In return we all loved her fiercely.

Quilting and sewing brought endless joy to JoAnn. She looked forward to long, quiet afternoons just her and the sewing machine. Each quilt or piece of clothing meticulously planned, cut, pieced and sewn. She shared this passion with friends and especially her sister, Peggy. Together they spent hours picking out fabric and attending quilt shows. Those were some of her happiest days. JoAnn was an avid reader. She always had a book going. Her garden thrived under her tender care;

she could grow anything!
