Mary was born on December 26, 1957, in Moto’otua, Samoa. She later moved to California, where she pursued her education at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. A woman of intelligence, grace, and resilience, Mary worked as an auditor in the electrical components industry before dedicating herself to raising her two beloved sons as a full-time mother.
One unforgettable evening, fate intervened at Ruben’s Restaurant and Disco, where Mary approached a young man named Michael to ask for a dance. That dance turned into a lifelong love story. Mary and Michael were married on February 14, 1987, and their journey together was filled with laughter, strength, and unwavering devotion.
Mary had a profound love for her family, which included her two sons, David and William, and later, her cherished granddaughters, Isabella and Rosalynn. Her family meant everything to her, and she poured her heart into creating a home filled with warmth and compassion.
Those who knew Mary will remember her for her unique sense of style, her independent spirit, and her boundless kindness. She found joy in horror movies and true crime television, had a sharp wit, and exuded a deep empathy for others. Her pets—Lady, her loyal dog, and Sheba, her beloved cat—were constant companions and a source of comfort and joy.
Mary was predeceased by her siblings Nu'u Wilson, Patrick Wilson, Christina Wilson, Tai Wilson, and Joe Wilson. She is survived by her loving husband Michael Symonds; her sons David Symonds and William Symonds; her daughter-in-law Jennifer Symonds; her granddaughters Isabella and Rosalynn Symonds; her siblings Irene Tafulu, Jeannie Oltman, Faitoaga Soloi, Martha Wilson, and Lonnie Wilson; and a large extended family who will miss her dearly.
