Merced Asebez Ewing, affectionately known as Mercy, was born on September 10, 1956, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She peacefully passed away on June 7, 2024, in Seal Beach, California. Mercy was well taken care of by her children up to her passing at the young age of 67.
Raised in Westminster, California, Mercy attended Westminster High School and later became a cherished member of her community. She met her beloved husband while cruising Whittier Blvd., and together they shared a life filled with love and devotion until his passing in 1994.
Mercy dedicated many years of her life as a customer service representative at Southern California Edison. Beyond her professional achievements, her true calling was found in caring for her parents. She selflessly tended to their every need, from daily tasks to accompanying them to important events, ensuring their comfort and happiness. She took great care of them. She always hosted their parties at their home and made it special for family to enjoy the holidays. She was an amazing daughter to them and eventually their hospice nurse until their passing. There was no end to her love for her parents.
A remarkable mother, Mercy raised three children on her own with unwavering dedication and boundless love. Her eldest son, Michael Ray, and a set of twins, Sara Patricia and George Isamu Jr., were the center of her world. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent together as a family.
Becoming a grandmother at the young age of 37, Mercy's heart expanded with immeasurable joy with the arrival of her first granddaughter, Marissa. Mercy went from a strong mother to a ball of mush when she became a grandma. Marissa was the love of her life. She did everything with Marissa and became that “crazy” grandma that gave her entire heart to her “mamas.”
Then along came her next granddaughter, Abby. She was, again, over the moon with love. She could not get enough of her and just adored her and poured her heart into her. Then came Logan, her first great-grandson; Robbie, her first grandson; and Samantha, her third granddaughter, and then another great-granddaughter Harper. She also was aware that she would be a great-grandma again with her unborn great-granddaughter who is due in December 2024. She was very excited and happy for Marissa.
At this point her heart was exploding with love and she was overjoyed with the blessings God gave her with such amazing grandchildren. Mercy would do anything in her power for all of her grandchildren. They were her life.
Despite facing personal challenges and loss, Mercy remained a pillar of strength and resilience. Her unwavering faith and determination inspired all who knew her. Her family remembers her as their angel in heaven, a beacon of love, and a source of endless support.
Mercy was preceded in death by her parents Raymundo and Maria Asebez. She is survived by her sister; Patricia Asebez, brother; Rick Asebez, sons; Michael Ewing, George Ewing, daughter; Sara Baker, son-in-law; Robert Baker, daughter-in-law; Tanji Ewing, daughter-in-law; Jennifer Ewing, great-grandson; Logan Hoover, granddaughter; Marissa Irwin, grandson; Robbie Baker, granddaughter; Abby Ewing, granddaughter; Samantha Ewing, great-granddaughter; Harper Irwin and baby great-granddaughter due in December.
Mercy's legacy of love, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves behind a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Rest in peace, dear Mercy. Your love remains with us always.
