Norma O. Gomez

January 18, 1933July 20, 2020

On Monday, July 20, 2020, Norma Gomez, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 87.

Norma was born on January 18, 1933 in Guantanamo, Cuba, to Artemio and Blanca Portillo. Her mother passed away at the young age of 22, and Norma was raised by her aunt and uncle, Ana and Fernando Alvarez, along with her father, Artemio. Norma grew up in a large, loving family with several brothers and sisters. In 1952, she married Juan Gomez, and they raised four children; Armando, Ismael, Ariel and Elizabeth.

In 1961, Norma and Juan made the courageous decision to leave Cuba and move their family to the United States as communism began to take hold under Fidel Castro. Norma worked tirelessly to bring the rest of her family members to the U.S., where they built happy, productive lives and remained close.

Norma and Juan formally became American Citizens in 1986. Norma proudly worked in Electronics Assembly for the defense industry for 35 years. She was a strong, hard-working woman who was deeply loved by her extended family and countless friends who felt like family to her.

Norma is survived by her husband of 68 years, her four children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
