Born June 16, 1933 in Kapaau, Hawaii, Shirley was the youngest child born to Yoshii and Kikue (Kamegawa) Sano. She grew up in Hawaii and while attending college in Honolulu, met the handsome Corwyn Love. On December 19, 1953, they married and went on to have their first child, Sharon, in Hawaii. In the early 50’s Shirley and Corky moved from Hawaii to Corky’s home state of California where they bought a home, added two daughters and a son to the family and made a beautiful life for their now family of six. They were active in their church and served a multitude of people in various roles. As a member of the Women’s ministries, Shirley coordinated many church activities and potlucks, often centering around the kitchen and wonderful food.
Shirley was a homemaker and the HUB of the Love family. She was always ready to give advice, love, and comfort. She was an excellent cook and her family “Friday Night Dinners” are now a tradition carried on in the homes of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader of hundreds of books each year, a gardener, whose rose garden overflowed with beautifully tended buds, seamstress teaching us how to sew, crochet, knit, embroider, sewing our clothes, quilts, and shorts for sale. She had many talents but her chocolate chip cookie recipe will forever be savored and bring happy memories to many. She read the Orange County Register each day, was an Angels fan who watched all their baseball games, loved Bingo, gambling at the casinos and online, and puzzles. Sushi was her go to favorite food but she enjoyed all. She also loved people and socialized with everyone. Once she met you, she always remembered something to inquire about in the next visit and made you feel special.
A long-time resident of Garden Grove, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years Corwyn Ralph Love, her daughter, Sharon Lee Sheets, Brothers Takeshi (Inge), Hiroshi (Yayoi), Joseph (Barbara), and Sisters, Waiko Uehana (Masa), Hisako Hiraki (Ralph), and many loved ones.
She is survived by her three children, Brenda Love-Ruiz (Edward Ruiz), James (Sheila) Love, and Susan Love; eight grandchildren; Danielle Sheets, Bobby Robles, Natalie (Michael) Carpenter, Sean Ruiz (Taylor), Nicholas (Kyle) Ruiz, Christopher (Molly) Love, Kimberly (Chad) Crow, and Nicole Love; fourteen great-grandchildren: Mercedes, Isabella, Paisley, Rainne, Ava, Ellasyn, Asher, Elijah, Adelyn, Emiko, Bentley, Colton, Halston, and Kailand. Many other relatives, nieces and nephews in Hawaii, California, and Tennessee.
Shirley will be remembered as wise and kind toward everyone with a steadfast faith in God, dedication to serve others, and fierce love of family.
We join together in celebrating her life and the love she leaves in our hearts at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024 at His Place Church, 14061 Chestnut St. Westminster, California 92683.
Prior to the service visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA, 92683
