

Steven Loyal Benson, born July 31, 1944, passed away peacefully at St.Jude hospital on November 15, 2011. Steven was born to the late Harold and Ruby Benson in Burbank, California. As a toddler he moved to Sylmar where he remained until
completing High School and enrolling in the Coast Guard Academy. He graduated from the USCGA with Highest Honors and received a BS in Engineering in 1966.
Steven served in the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Lieutenant serving aboard the USCGC Minnetonka and the USCGC Diligence. He earned three Bronze Stars for his valor. Steven returned from service and met Terumi Wada. The couple married in Sylmar, California in 1970. Together, they had one son, Erik born in 1973 and one daughter,Stephanie born in 1977. His occupation as a petroleum engineer took the family to remote and exotic locales around the world and cultivated both a love of travel and an appreciation of home.
Steven is survived by his wife Terri, son Erik Benson, daughter Stephanie Benson, and sisters Kathy Patrick and Teri Benson. A service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011, 12pm at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683.
