

On March 13, 2015, Vivian Haney Whitten McKee, embarked on her eternal journey. Born in Iola, Kansas, in 1928, her family moved to California in 1936. An extraordinarily kind and giving person, her greatest accomplishments were her three loving and devoted children, Daughter Carol Witt of Oceanside, Son Gary Whitten of Long Beach, and Daughter Lisa Whitten of Aliso Viejo; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; Step-children, Stephen G. McKee and Mary R. Warga. She is preceded in death by husbands Donald G. Whitten and Ray L. McKee.
Vivian retired from the Long Beach School Employees Federal Credit Union in 1993, after 19 years of service. Her life’s achievements were many. A graduate of Long Beach Poly High School, and most notably, at age 80, earning her Associates of Arts Degree from Long Beach City College. A life-long commitment to volunteer work, Vivian’s humanitarian efforts, as a Victory Aide, started at age fifteen in 1944, providing care to WWII Veterans at Seaside Memorial Hospital in Long Beach. More recently, her life’s work included volunteering as a gardener at Rancho Los Alamitos and serving the homeless through “Feed my Lambs” at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church in Long Beach. Her beautiful smile and kind words will be missed by many. Vivian, you are, will always be, truly one-of a-kind!
