

Lix, Elsie Ruth passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Annie Jeffrey; loving husband, Casper “Cappy” John Lix; brother, Wylie Lix and sisters, Rita Redpath, Stella Krocker and Lillian McLachlan. Elsie was born January 12, 1920 on the farm near Herbert, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the farm with her parents and five siblings. Elsie enjoyed outdoor work, horseback riding, attending rural dances and even doing outside chores. While still working on her high school education, mostly through correspondence, Elsie did some light housekeeping at Waldeck and Neidpath. In 1942 she moved to Weyburn and began Psychiatric Nursing classes in 1943. She would graduate in 1946 and quickly became a supervisor in 1947. Elsie worked full time on the Admission Unit and T.B. Unit and in later years only casual. Elsie married Casper Lix on August 18, 1949 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They lived on Elgin street in Weyburn for 52 years, Rhineland Apartments for ten years, Hilltop Manor for two years and lastly in Regina at a Senior’s home for a year and a half. Elsie loved music and dancing, along with Cappy they attended many dances in Weyburn. She enjoyed playing cribbage, drawing, sewing, knitting, crocheting and doing crafts. Elsie was very creative and loved to write poems about people she knew. She also had a large garden at her home on Elgin Street and she enjoyed tending to it as well as mowing the lawn. As well as going for walks she was involved with a bowling league for many years and volunteered helping mentally challenged people to bowl. Elsie served on the Legion Ladies Auxillary. As a family they attended church regularly and helped with ushering, communion and the Ladies Auxillary. Cappy and Elsie enjoyed travelling and spent much time in Northern Saskatchewan on fishing trips. After retiring Elsie and Cappy took several bus tours into the United States and in 1994 they attended the 50 year commemoration ceremonies in France of the D-Day Landing. Elsie was strong, brave, patient and positive. She was a very friendly, kind and loving woman who never complained and loved her family deeply. She enjoyed her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. Elsie had a wonderful sense of humour and loved a good joke, which she would write down and keep in her purse. Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her children: son, Brian (Liz) Lix and their children: Daniel (Caryn) Lix and Erin Lix of Lethbridge, AB; daughter, Gwen (Jim) Kupiec and their children: Shawna Kupiec (Justin), Crystal (Curt) Webb, and Devon Kupiec (Brianna) of Regina, SK; sister, Joyce Belanger of Regina, SK; brother-in-law Don McLachlan of Swift Current, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Funeral Reception followed in Grace United Church Upper Hall. Donations in memory of Elsie may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
