She was born May 29, 19116, on the family farm, Little Butte, near Maxim, SK. She was a member of a large, loving family consisting of Father James, Mother Mary, brothers, Philip and Bill, and sisters, Phyllis, Laura, Carrie, Amy, Alice, Belle, Ida and Frances, all except Ida, having predeceased her.
She received her education from Lille Butte School.
On September 13, 1942, Ethel married Lou Lawrence of Colgate, SK. Over the next few years, they welcomed sons, Grant and Jim. After the war Lou and Ethel settled in Weyburn.
Ethel will be missed by grandchildren, John (Joanne) Lawrence of Victoria, BC, Tracey Lawrence of Courtenay, BC, Craig Lawrence of Calgary, AB, Kirby and Bob Lawrence of Calgary, AB; great grandchildren, Adam, Megan, Kate, Madison, Dean and Jack; sister, Ida Jasper as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In the mid- 50’s, Ethel worked part-time at Robinson’s Stores, and from the early 60’s through the early 70’s at J.K. Fredrickson Jewellers.
She loved spending time with family, friends and people in general. Ethel also cherished playing cards with sister-in-law, Evelyn (Merlin) Bell, and good friends Bob and Jean Michel.
The Weyburn Legion and United Church Ladies Auxiliary benefitted from her time and assistance.
Following Lou’s death in 1999, Ethel moved to Parkway Lodge in 2000, the Tatagwa View in November 2009.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. from the Grace United Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Donations in memory of Ethel may be made to the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation.
