George Berry, late of Burnaby, BC, formerly of Weyburn, SK, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2015, at the age of 97 years.
George was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Berry, and his wife, Eleanora (Ole) Berry. He is survived by his only daughter, Brenda Gray of Burnaby, BC; four brothers: Norman of Saskatoon, SK; Gordon of Compeer, AB; Edgar (Anita Leung) of Red Deer, AB; and Mark (Vivian) of Edmonton, AB; one sister-in-law, Clara Rubin of Regina, SK; and many dear nieces, nephews and their families.
George was born on the family farm near Loverna, SK and was the eldest of the five boys. He served as a member of RCAF during WWII stationed at Halbrite, SK. It was there that he met and married his wife, Eleanora (Ole) Rubin, in 1943. George and Ole moved to Weyburn in 1951 and acquired the Dairy Queen store in 1961 which they operated together for 14 years. They retired to Burnaby, BC in 1988.
George will be always be remembered as a devoted husband and a wonderfully supportive father, brother, uncle and friend. His warm and generous spirit touched many people’s lives and his kindness and quiet humor will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place in Burnaby. A Service of Remembrance and interment of George’s ashes will be held in Weyburn at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
