1928-2018
Gordon Giroux, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2018 at the age of 90 years. He was predeceased by his parents Morley and Annie Giroux, bothers Hugh Giroux and Raymond Giroux, son Murray Giroux, brother-in-law Dale Broker; sister-in-law Joan Giroux. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 68 years, Doris; and their four sons, Gary (Michell), Greg, Rick (Angie), Laurie (Janice); brother Morley (Darlene) Giroux; daughter-in-law Linda Giroux; sisters, Doris (Mel) VandeSype, Noreen(George) Karch, Jeanne (Jim) Simmons, Marion (Don) Mcpherson, Eileen Broker; sister-in-law Margaret Giroux. Gordon received his education at Forget and the Weyburn Collegiate. He and a partner bought a dairy herd and worked with brothers Hugh and Ray managing his parents herd and sold milk to the Weyburn Dairy. IN 1954 Gordon, Hugh, and Ray started a trucking business operating as Giroux Bros. and hauled oil from the first oil well in the Weyburn Oil Field. They later expanded into general contracting and Redi-Mix concrete business as well as farming. Gordon served many years on the Nickle Lake Park Board along with Lloyd Hala, and they were instrumental in starting over night camping as well as expanding the park facilities. Gordon and his wife Doris (Williamson) were married in 1950 and raised a family of five sons and are very proud of their fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Gordon’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff and all who cared for Gordon while he was a resident at the Weyburn Special Care Home. “ You are all truly special” . The family are having a private memorial service. There will be a private burial service to be held at a later date.
